Okay, I have finally worked up the courage to remove the paint from my M40a1 return stock, figure the rest of the gun is new so why not make it my own. Questions is how to remove this USMC Bionic Underwater Ninja Knife Fighter F*ck-Off Krylon...Help!, I know there are several guys here with return stocks.

I have already checked out this thread.

EEK! AAK! Oh my!

What are you gonna do to that piece of history! LOL!

You're making me cry! Now I regret selling it to you - LOL!

Still an awesome rifle man! Made me cry to sell my M40A3, but I needed a transmission for my car! Oh well - LOL!

I use Castrol SuperClean(Purple Bottle) to strip paint off of plastic models and never had a problem with polystyrene or resin models - involves soaking/immersion to work. The paint literally slides off most times - some scrubbing sometimes.

HTH man!

All the best, Carl

Dude, that's the same paint I bought it as ...I want to remove it and bring out the woodland...

I know - I was just yanking your chain! LOL!

I still think you shouldn't mess with it - just my opinion. I added to my post above with a paint removal technique that I use.

HTH!

Cheers, Carl

I've been wrestling with whether or not to strip it since I got it. I saw the 8K + replicas from Mcmillian and really like the look of the woodland camo ... no, haven't shot it yet.

You might think about getting a new stock in the same config as the originals - real easy order from McMillan or try JW Precision - he's a fellow Canuck and is on here as Wallbanger!

To tell the truth, if I hadn't got rid of the stock, it was gonna hang on the wall just as is with the certificate - in all it's USMC glory!

That's the main reason why I wouldn't mess with the paint. I do also love the look of the woodland on the A1. As I said above, I'd get a new one that could take the place of the return so it isn't messed with.

Now you got a hard decision - me and my big mouth, LOL!

Cheers, Carl

Ya, if I recall in Mike Lau's book it said they used acetone to get the paint off.

Personally, I think you should keep it.

I've used acetone to remove paint from a fiberglass AR15 forend. Paint just wipes right off, no waiting.

Are you looking to expose the paint underneath or prep it for another paint job? If it is the later f the two and that stuff is "NINJA" paint, sand her smooth and have at her.

This fecking paint is BIONIC!. It's personal now ... it will be removed and the pretty woodland exposed. The magic is in the stock and the sum of the parts ...not the paint as far as I am concerned.:50cal:
