I kind of have a crush on the M40A1 rifle for a while now and might have someone build a ''clone''. The USO MST-100 is extreemely rare but who knows, I might get lucky.

Any member here is lucky enough to own such a rifle ?

Just sold a USMC SSA endorsed Remington repro of the original M40 with the clip slotted receiver. 'Bout as near as you can get to an original M40 and had ATRS build a while back a pretty good clone of a M40Ai. Lots of love for the classic look.
 
I don't own an M40A1, but I do own a Steyr SSG.69 with a USO MST-100 mounted on it. I have to say, of all the scopes and glass I have looked at over many years, this is by far the clearest, sharpest, and best riflescope I have ever mounted to a rifle of my own. Fixed 10x magnification with Mil-Dot reticle; bullet drop compensation elevation turret. Built like a tank. My average 3-shot group size at 100 yard has been between .501", with two groups measuring .343" and .224", respectively.

Like so many others, I originally planned to build an M40A1 clone, but after mounting the MST-100 on the SSG.69 and shooting that rifle, I would not change it out for a winning lottery ticket. I was lucky enough to get one of the limited productions scopes USO put out last year, and it has been the best investment I ever made with regard to shooting glass.

Now I need something to put on my Lee-Enfield L.39 clone. . . .
 
There's a great, super in-depth thread on the M40A1 and clone builds over on Snipershide. Lots of input from both the people who build them and those who were issued them.
 
I have lusted after that rifle as well but just can't commit $3-$5,000 for a 1970's 10x scope design. I guess the A1 just isn't an A1 without one though. Same story with the C3.

Check out the CMP website if you know any Americans that could bid for you. There is a USMC Unertl (about as M40A1 as you can get) on there right now for a bid of $3500. They routinely get bid up to ~$5000.

The M40-A1 rifle is built like a tank, as is the Unertl 10X scope. However, even Marines admit that the scope is dated technology and I had a difficult time get a proper eye relief with it.

Would I take another one if it presented itself.......in a heart beat. I have had "seller's remorse" since I parted with mine a few years back.

I guess you didn't hear the unertl scopes having reticle washout issues in afghanistan then. Neat scope but there's way better scopes now. Although I am sad there isn't more fixed power scopes with mil dot or mil line reticles.

Unbelievable the seller would call that an M40. Nothing against ATRS, but I have seen quite a few ATRS built "M40" rifles that are not even close to any M40 specification. I wonder why they even bother calling these M40's? Is it just marketing by ATRS? False advertising by the seller? Man, it is not hard to look up what the specifications for an M40 rifle, and subsequent variants are. Maybe hoping to dupe the uninformed?

As I mentioned: dated technology. It was state of the art 1970'-1980's, but time has passed the unertl by. That being said, it is still built like a tank....
 
I have the S&B fixed 12x which I purchased from 'Rudi' at International in KW about 18 years+ years ago. Multi-Coated and one of the better fixed powered scopes for 300+ meters
 
sorry kind of a late reply and only cel phone photos.....

After many years of collecting bits. Not a true spec build as I took some liberties with aspects of it.
