Like the title says brothers and sisters, when shooting and sighting in the m44, does one need to have the boyonet extended or closed,. I have heard that one has to have the bayonet extended in order to group? true or not true?

This is an ongoing debate. True the Russian practice was to zero them with bayonet extended. But of my 3 M-44's two don't seem to care whether it's in our out, and the 3rd is way different. I'm going to zero that for the bayonet folded; my preference.

Mine fires 3 inches to the right and 1 inch low at 25 yards with bayonet in. With it out its dead on.

Mine is almost the same, mind you when the bayonet is folded out it shoots dead on but 3" high @ 100 meters. I suspect the 1952 Hungarian milsurp ammo is way hotter then the stuff it was factory sighted to in 1944.

I'm still not sure if mine was set to be a 6 o clock hold or a center hold at 100 yards.

The Seller & Bellot modern loads I used were really mild, and super accurate...pretty much dead on @ 100 meters.

I might try to rig up an adjustable rear sight or look for an adjustable aperture sight for mine.

I have owned and shot several Russian M44's and have always found that when the bayonets are folded they are applying pressure on the stock. POA/POI changed(for the better)when the bayonet was extended. The Polish M44's on the other hand(from my experience)shoot POA with the bayonets in or out as they don't apply pressure on the stock.
