Hi guys. I`m looking for a bayonet lug/ front sight assembly for a polish 1953 m44. I see liberty tree has the double ear lug for the chinese m44 type 53. Is it possible that it could fit. I see the chinese one has inferior machining but i thought i could give it a try. Any experts out there. Thanks for the help.

They should fit without problems, they also have the bayonet too if you need to complete your project.

I have 2 Russian M44s. I removed the bayonet and front sight assembly for cleaning on one of them (the other is stuck fast). This of course does not make me an expert but....
The good news is the surface finish on the barrel is quite rough which suggests that the fit between the two parts in not very precise.
The bad news is the Polish and Chinese versions are not copies of each other, but copies of the earlier Russian original. Cousins not brothers.
I haven't seen a Chinese example but the Polish ones are distinctive in the much better material finish compared to the Russian. This will probably be reflected in the closeness of fit between the bayonet extension and the barrel. The parts might have been press fit together or the extension might have been heated and then press fit. Poland might have used one method and China another; limits of fit are dictated by the assembly method.
The location of the cross pins could be a variable to be considered. In original manufacturing the sight mount would be press/force fit over the barrel and the cross holes were drilled in the assembly; a fixture would locate the holes for drilling. The distance between the two cross holes might be the same, or it might be different by several mms.
They might fit but my guess is they won't without some modification.

I was thinking along the same lines , but I just ordered the one from Liberty tree, simply because I haven`t had any luck finding a Polish one. I figured it`s only $25.00 to try. Thanks for the info.

Post how you make out with Liberty. I placed an order for a bunch of Mosin parts; extractor, magazine floor plate, bolt head, etc. and a pair of barrel bands. After they were done with everything they couldn't export, I was left with the barrel bands. Some funny rules they have.

P.S. I work every day with duplicate tools, parallel machining lines, and dual/multiple sourcing. Even when everybody is working from the same prints and trying to make parts identical, a good number of issues come up. Neither the Chinese nor Poles would have had interchangeability among non allies near the top of their list. Hope it works out.

I will post about Liberty. I`m a carpenter so I get it about the same parts sometimes not being so exact. I`ve purchased from Numrich before without a problem. Thanks for your help.

Just curious if the original bayonette mounting sleeve came off easily or not, i got the parts coming for the same repair and im not sure how many pins gotta be removed, or how hard they were to come out and to knock off the sleeve.

The existing one has 2 pins . One by the bayonet , the other by the sight . At the lug- I knocked that pin up from the bottom, as I wasn`t sure if it was tapered .Both pins were easily removed. Now the pins being out It simply would not budge even using a jig and a vise. Impressive. I didn`t want to apply heat so I clamped it in the vise ( with protection) . Using a large flat file simply file the underside of the piece flat. As you are doing so you will start to see the barrel appear. Just move along until the barrel line runs the whole length. It only took about 15 minutes. Now it taps off easily.
To install the new one I lubed it a little. I drilled a hole in a block of hardwood to fit over the barrel end and with a few good taps it went on. At one point I thought I might have to remove it again and gently and evenly run the file around the barrel , but it did go on. The lug pin went in the old hole . The sight pin I had to run a drill bit through. I had to file the dovetail slightly to slide the sight in place. The bayonet installed easily. The whole project took about an hour. Hope that helps and good luck.

well, I've never asked about the bayonet lugs specifically but from what I've been told, the type 53 stocks are identical(aside from wood used and possibly sling mounts) to the type 44 and so it would stand to reason that the lugs would fit as well.
