I have a couple of these sweet little carbines and would like to do more shooting with them. I had an M44 out at the range on the weekend and was shooting some milsurp ammo. I couldn't believe how loud the rifle was and I was wearing foam ear plugs and my ears were covered with ear defenders. My Son and his Girlfriend waited in the truck with their ear defenders on due to the noise. The muzzle flash was incredible,
I was shooting white tipped Russian ammo from the 70's. I believe the bullets weighted about 148 grains. I shoot the same milsurp load out of my 91/30's and it is nice to shoot. Both guns are very accurate with this load.
I was wondering if this ammo is made for the longer barrel of the 91/30 or SVT. Has anybody experimented with different loads (powders) and found one powder/bullet combination that is a little more efficient in the M44/38? When I say efficient I mean less muzzle blast and recoil, etc. with accuracy. I know I can shoot reduced loads but it would be nice to get a good accurate hunting load for them.
Thanks
