Starting a new thread for range reports from the collector source mosin m44's brought in recently (also feel free to post range results from your much nicer m44's)

Here is the thread with pics and info:

Mine is a 1945 all stamped matching except the bolt (shown here with m38):

Range Report:
Shooting at 50 yards, turns out the gun is sighted with the bayonet extended as that shifted the POI above the POA. When I had it folded in, the shots would go to the left:

notice the tight group in the middle, shot after I went to change targets and extended the bayo (rifle had time to cool off)

more targets, rifle is warm at this point:

range vid time!

target on the right is from the video, on the left target I shot really fast only taking a second or less to aim:

so this M44 was real bargain at $261 shipped and the stock is beat up enough that you dont care about dinging it or hurting collector value

right for got to mention ammo! this is chinese 7.62x54r ammo from marstar

That really good shooting! I hope to try mine before spring but now we are buried in snow Thoses M44 from cs were,in my case, a great deal. What brand of ammos you did use?

mosins are quickly becoming my fav rifles, I was never really interested in them before, but one day I ordered a 91/30 and caught the bug. still havent fired the 91/30! (its a nice all matching - even bayo piece from westrifle)

yes im sure some premium ammo or a scope would really tighten things down

Nice review Luke! Thanks. I have a polish m44. Nice rifles. Good shooting! Groups might get even better with some expensive ammo? Maybe
Got quite a kick with that steel buttplate! Lol

Hickok45 is awesome. Can't wait to get my $195 M44 to the range. Going to order some ammo, so it'll be a couple weeks before I get it out.

Found even with "expensive" commercial ammo accuracy still leaves something to be desired. If you want real accuracy for these rifles or any cf rifle in general you must reload.

Nice day except it was so windy the stapes kept ripping from the targets.
First is the Collector's Source M44 @ 50
Then SFRC M38 @ 50
Last is M91/30 Tula 1935 @ 100 yds - only eight shoots - the flier is when the staples ripped out

Same M44 from Collectors Source - second one is at the beauty parlor. Fifty yards, all 10 are there. She's a sloppy old one but there isn't anything wrong with how she shoots.
UPDATE. I've had the same M44 out 3 times since I posted the target below. I haven't been able to get anything close to that result since - not for want of trying. Just in case you are thinking of buying one, don't expect this kind of accuracy. That said, I don't give up so easily.

Are these the same batch that Collector's Source is selling for at $295 plus shipping. Hard to tell from their pictures since they are heavily covered in comoslline. How is the bluing on the gun? I been debating whether to take a chance on it or not. I am spoiled by a pristine Polish M44.

I believe the current $295 priced M44s at Collectors Source are a different batch as they are listed as all numbers matching where the earlier ones weren't.
These rifles also come with TWICE the amount of cosmoline as in the sites picture.
They also charge 3℅ for credit card orders, so add anther $30 to your order, plus tax, plus shipping, plus the time needed to fully remove the cosmoline.
At that rate, just order a mint one from Corwin for $387.

I bought a couple of the $199 ones from last year (not-matching). If you a looking for a show piece, these aren't them. On the other hand, if you are looking for an M44 with some character and history, its worth a shot. Barrels in the previous lot were in good shape; very little wear but some pitting - bit of a gamble what you might get. The stocks are in "well worn" shape. Unfortunately the ones I got had quite a few deep modern bruises. Easy to fix with a new garnet shellac finish. Tons of cosmoline on last years' - looks like the new ones are the same. I sort of enjoy cleaning them so no problem for me - get a plastic scraper, a bucket and some rubber gloves.
At $199 the were a good deal; not so sure about $299.

Having fired many Mosins, M44s, and M38s, and yes, owning them all, If you can get some wire insulation or something to lift your front post to bring up POI makes a big difference. Also , not sure if you're a hunter or not but the 203gr LVE or MFS Does pretty good up to a hundred or more yards with open sights and your POI will drop from the heavier bullet. You can also try to change your POI by removing the bayonet completely, just tape up the sharp edges on the bayo mount.

I shoot Gongs with open sights up to 140 yards and find with a bit of tweaking on the sights and playing with different ammo I can do pretty good with the gongs. I have no problem taking deer with these guns and usually do. Most places I deer hunt are forested to where you don't get many shots more than 100 yards. Mosin carbines have no problem for this.

I love my M44! These are my targets at 50 and 100 meters with regular sights ( have MOJO sights right now) and Timney trigger. I did clean my bore like a maniac before :) Military surplus ammo (China)
