m44 russian $195 at collector source

Got mine today. After cleaning cosmoline with my steamer got a look at it. Metal in very good condition, no export mark. Wood other story, not bad but arsenal repaired crack, still solid. My concern about the head space. the bolt and receiver a not matching, no marks or something.

If it came in cosmoline then I wouldn't worry about headspace - this would certainly be inspected during the refurbishment process. Refurbishment is not some careless once-over by a bored teenager. It would have been done with gauges and measurement tools to ensure that the firearms going into storage have measureable useful life remaining.
Headspace and other considerations are important in a miss-matched surplus rifle you buy at a gun store or gun show - you don't really know what you have. Same as any used firearm.
Head space concerns are like slam fires in SKS's and alligators in the sewers. Everybody has heard of them but nobody has seen one. A good way to sell gauges and firing pins though...

If they had been arsenal refurbished shouldn't they have matching #'s stamped (or at least electro-pencilled) on the receiver, bolt, floorplate and stock? That seems to be the case with any other former Soviet-bloc refurbs that I've seen.

I got my CP notice yesterday and picked up my package, no prob with CP. Rifle was boxed very well, the ends taped over really good. I've included pics of it's initial unveiling.. wow , i haven't seen that much cosmo since i opened up some old Willys NOS jeep parts, packed in the 50's, for my M38 jeep.. Anyway, mine is a 1945 (yeah !! secretly hoped it was) Izhevsk. Bolt does not match receiver. The stock looks really good with a few character dings or minor scrapes. Now for the "fun" part of cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. Good thing there is alot of snow on the roads to give me time to clean it before shooting it.. Plus I've just ordered a crate of 54r ammo. This is my first rifle in 7.62x54.. i still want a SVT-40 too (made into sniper style).. but geez i may order another M44 for that great price. Was total $262 (paid for tracking) to Interior BC and 5-6 days delivery... Thanks to Collector Source...

Looks like you have a real nice rifle under all that cosmo! I no longer see the M44 listed at CS.

Ordinarily the serial numbers are matching. Serialization is more about making sure that everybody (in training, in the field etc.) doesn't loose their pieces and borrow the ones from the guy next to them. Component interchangeability is an absolute requirement of mass production of anything. All parts conforming (i.e. in specification for dimension and tolerance) are fully interchangeable. The refurbishment process would have involved measuring the parts for conformance.
It isn't worth paying $25 for NG of $50 for G,NG, and F gauges if you have only one or two rifles that you bought in cosmoline - they are certainly going to pass. In any case, half the headspace component is the bolt head and extractor assembly which is not serialized.
Matching serial numbers are a consideration for collectors but not for many people.

First Nagant I owned, a similar greenish yellow thing coiled out of the barrel (with a little pressure from my cleaning rod) and landed on my foot. I honestly thought it was a snake and screamed like a girl. Your picture brings back an embarrassing memory.
