Jay - How do you like the scope. I have the same one to put on a Swede just not quite there yet.

I say right off that I am a fan of the Bushnell Elite or Leupold for optics...

But in this case, I looked at the Burris $600, the Leupold $400 and then found the Vortex on the EE for $180 shipped. The BadAce Tactical scout mount feels rock solid & they actually recommend the Vortex. Once I had it on the rifle, I was very surprised at how forgiving the optic is wrt eye relief. It almost feels like you should shoot it with both eyes open (especially @ 2x) & it is mounted low enough that you have a cheek weld NOT a chin weld, chuckle.

I have not shot it yet, might get to over March Break, but I'm going to assume the Vortex is up to the task. Very happy to have an optic on this rifle & seeing as how it is No Drill Tap, I can put the rifle back to original in minutes.

This get a SOLID "I would buy this setup again" from me.

Cheers

I have the Badace scout mounts on my Israeli K98, Swede M96 and M38. Really helped unlock the accuracy potential of these old guns!

I've done the same to a K98 and M48A. Put a NC Star 2-7x pistol scope on the K98 and a Cabelas 2-7x pistol scope on the M48A. The NC Star scope works surprisingly well (at least I was surprised). Used squirts of blue Loctite to help hold the screws in place.

I was able to get 3 shot cloverleafs at 100m just fooling around with handloads.

The trigger on the K98 is beautiful. I installed a Timney on the M48A because that trigger pull felt like doing a bench press.

I have a couple of M98 Swedish mausers I'm going to do the same to, with Cabelas pistol scopes. One belongs to my 15 year old and one is mine.

Bad Ace made one heck of a good mount for the K98 as well, bent bolt required. there is a new model now according to their site but the old model that I have is awesome. Easy to install once the front sight is removed (which is tricky and requires technique), I have debated another SVT mount and one of those M48 mounts as well. Any issues with the mount being so far forward on the M48?

I am waiting for warm weather to clear some Cosmo from a few rifles including a M48. was thinking it may be a nice woods carbine that will be a bit easier than carrying the full k98, I can only hope it is as accurate at the older rifle. I love the non-bolt hold open action and the lighter slightly shorter m48. If only 8mm were more plentiful, cheaper and easier to buy here in Canada.

Very nice. I've been thinking about getting an m48, as my collection doesn't have any 8mm goodness, but I tend to suck with irons... That's a nice mount at a reasonable price though! Might have to move this up a few spots on my list...

Sellier & Bellot soft point hunting ammo was easy enough to find @ a reasonable price!

Anyone have any comments on Canada Ammo's Russian capture ammo? It was produced in Germany in 1937/38 and the primers have been replaced with new non-corrosive primers. Anyone in the Ottawa area got a box of this stuff I could try to see if it prints close to the Sellier & Bellot hunting ammo?

Cheers

Israeli K98 and Swede M96/38. Vortex Crossfire II 2-7 with cheap-o rings. Badace mounts are the sh*t!

I know I have a lifetime supply of it for hunting unless I do too much target practise.... its the $31+avg price it seems to run at lately I bought a couple a cases 1 green 1 black pack a while back. S&B is the main ammo manufactuer I buy as preference as it seems to perform best in everything I own. x39,x54R,308win etc... One day they will hopefully include 8mm in the bulk section from tenda or another dealer that isn't that aweful reloaded stuff from CAnAM, I thankfully only bought 240rounds of that stuff and have fired all of 7 rounds. Feels like sticky bolt but its not I think the rounds are loaded hot or something else but I haven't bothered to fire them since. I have some Hornady but am saving that for a rainy day and PPU well I have never hit anything with it (not even paper) it shoots very low apparently.

Its a shame that bullets and rounds are such a premium compared to comparable 308 and 30-06...

Update...

My mount came loose within 20 rounds... I noticed the cross pin was walking out & somewhere between the range & home, I lost it.

Contacted BadAce Tactical & they are sending a replacement pin.

I installed it as per the instructions, but it still came loose. My mount is a gen 1 ndt M48 scout...

Anyone got any insight?

Cheers

I see they now have a larger mount for M48s gen 2 on their website now.....maybe some store of wrap on the pin to provide it text6and slightly more bulk or if it's a more permanent mount decision to use a tap and give it a detent on both sides to hold it in like they did to SKS bayonets...

I have a Gen 1 mount as well.

If the pin is still loose try wrapping a bit of plumbers tape around it before tapping it in. Use squirts of blue loctite on either side of the pin to hold it in place. The plumbers tape should help soak up the loctite and help hold in place. I used squirts of loctite on my M48 and nothing has come loose.

Hope this helps.

M96 bubba is strong with this one, mostly done before I got it. So I got the Badace mount, Vortex scope and a bunch of ammo. I have always liked the Mauser bolt stripping thing in the stock and as this did not come with the stock disk I put one in. It has quickly come to be a very fun and accurate rifle to shoot.
