m57.. Yugo milsurp or Zastava: which one will you get?

Zastava M70 (M57 cousin in 9mm). 1) wanted something new cuz most of my guns are older 2) 9mm because my range will not allow any ammo that reacts to a magnet .. brass Tokarev is/was about a buck a shot

I have a couple of TT-33's and had a M57. The M57 seemed to be made of a softer steel as the slide catch wore the slide notch down prematurely on mine. TradeEx was great to deal with and sent a new pistol but by then I'd seen enough.

Also the M57 has a clear cut through the entire slide for the catch to slip into. The Tokarev in contrast has only partial metal milled out of the slide for that catch to grab. This leaves a thin continuous line of metal down the entire length of the slide. I had read of others experiencing cracking at the top of the notch in the slide with the M57. IMO the Tokarev would be stronger not only due to the metal but the machining is better thought out.

That is only the commercial one. the Military M57's are made like every other tokarev and are not cut through at the catch.

Time for a new range run by people who aren't anal about what ammo you use and are OK with shooting at IPSC speeds.

It's my understanding that the Military ones have the Serbian coat of arms in front of the rear sight, lanyard ring on the left side and on the magazines; the civilian ones do not. I had a new manufacture military one that was not only beautifully finished, but very tight and well made; the slide had a notch that was right through. The longer grip due to the 9 vs 8 shot clips was a real asset. On all kinds of surplus ammo, not a miss feed, fire or fte in 1600 rounds.

It was a bit "hot" for me, and I shoot 9mm a whole lot better.
