Yugo M59 barrel is 20". This is the version without the grenade launcher.

Yugo m59/66 is the one with the grenade launcher which unthreads from barrel.

Questions:
When grenade launcher is unthreaded from barrel, is it the barrel the same length as the M59 (20")?

Do the rifle cycle ammo just as well with the grenade launcher off?

Thanks

I believe it is ~20" long with the grenade launcher removed. I tried to remove mine by drifting out the retaining pin but it still would not budge. You should notice no function difference with it removed as it is just an accessory on the muzzle and is not needed for back pressure purposes like the brake on a full auto Krinkov.

Steiner,

The M59/66 AB1 in my possesion has a 22.062 inch (approx) barrel. FYI DAR 701, the barrel ends approx .5 inch past the pin. The launcher is standard right hand thread and is on tight! Once you break it loose, it comes off easily.

Mine measures 24.187 inches to the end of the launcher, minus the 2.125 inches from the end of the launcher to the end of the rifling. This results in the aforementioned 22.062 inch barrel.

I've noticed that specs given all over the net list barrel length as around 20.5 inches, but it seems that everyone was too damn lazy to actually measure and simply assumed that it was the same length as standard models.

Cheers,

I was leery of using excessive force on it so I just left it on. I may take another crack at it as I have seen a AK74 style muzzle break that threads onto the M59/66AB1 that I would like to try. I was one of those guys to lazy to measure and just used the interweb specs... Now I gotta wrench on my 59/66!

I wasn't implying that YOU were one of the lazy ones!!;) I am surprised at all the "gun pro" sites and dealers that have it at 20.5 inches. Even a certain Canadian importer in the Vankleek Hill area has it listed as 20.5 inches. Tsk, tsk...

The longer barrel is just another justification to buy an M59/66, IMHO.

Cheers, guys!
