Bought this beast a few months ago, only had it out a couple times during hunting season and I know its hitting low by about 20" at 25 - 30yd. The problem is the super high front post and the low, sleek XS ghost ring at the back - points the gun right at the dirt lol. I want to correct this without cranking that ghost ring way up, higher chance of breakage I think... Anyone else have one of these "Blackwater" 590s? I'm sure they've all go the same issue, any good front post fixes?

Are the rear sights on the BW model rail mounted? Maybe upgrade to something like a PSI ghost ring sight? Brownells carries them but they're over the $100 limit. Seeing that these are taller, might raise your POI. I think there's a matching front sight for the higher rail mount version.

I'm thinking cheaper fix, filing down the front post... or change it out to a lower one? Something like that.... (I like the idea of a lower sight profile rather than higher, gives me a better cheek weld, sleeker gun too.)

this is the rear sight

and this is the whole package

You can see how much higher the front post is, even in the picture. Like an 1/8" - 3/16" high - bad factory work IMHO... Come on mossberg, i'm gonna switch to REMINGTON lol.

My price for the Contour Plain Sight Mfr Part: BAR11RD4 are 79$ from Brownells... If you want them I can order them for you.... But the weaver are 101.59 FFS.... Nothing a bit a paperwork cant fix

Cheers

Damn it... a buck 59 over limit! I wonder if that BAR11RD4 will work with my 590A1 model which uses the other ghost ring sight that doesn't seem very robust but not sure if it will match up with my front sight 'cause it looks a bit higher.

Did you have to adjust the rear sight at all f55? could you measure the height for me, I'm just curious if the slugs are tumbling for some reason now... or if you rear sight is just set up higher. The barrel seems clean I don't know what would throw the shot down, I've had guns with poorly machined choke threads that were tumbling bird shot up on the way out of the barrel - but this is a fixed cyl heavy barrel.

This is how it is from factory

from your pic above, the rear of the base to top of the sight on mine is 0.390

my front post (just the post not the base is 0.273 inches tall

Are you shooting factory or reloads, mine are facotry Sellier and Bellot 12ga 2 5/8 Reduced Recoil, 1oz slugs.

Shooting winchester 1oz high brass loads.... They pattern nicely out of my 535, just got back in from a 12hr snow plow shift... I'll get the vernier out in the a.m. and compare those measurements, thanks!

My rear sight was .400 inch and the front post was .322 inch ring dia was about .250 inch.

.400 - .125 = .275 rear height for a p.o.a off the center of the ring.

.322 - .275 = .047 making the front post about 50 thou higher than the rear... doesn't really seem like enough of a difference, but I'll shave half that off the top of the front post and see what happens...

What is the height from the top of the barrel to the top of the front sight blade, if you would indulge me once again. Thanks!

Move the rear, dont shave the front. If you mess up you will have to replace it.

I still have room to drop the rear like 30 thou, I'd prefer a lower sight profile to raising that ring. I'm gonna try find a lower front post, drift the old one out before I try file it down. Looks like a standard 3/8" dovetail shouldn't be to hard to find something... Thanks again!
