My son came home for three days to hunt bears with me. I loaned him my Rem M600 in 350RemMag and I used my 358Frontier. He shot a nice young boar on the evening of day two and he was really "pumped". Nice to see him so excited and enthusiastic and enjoying the hunting.
Last year he missed a bear by rushing his shot. But his aim was perfect this time and the 250 HornadyRN at close to 2500fps punched through the chest with quite a large exit wound - about softball sized. The bear ran about 10' and expired with several moans as is typical of a good hit. No trailing around after a bear at dusk that is about to die but wants to travel lots before it does.
Incidentally, as one might expect, the 250RN seems to displace a lot more bear on its way through than did the 250SpeerHC I used on last years bear with the same rifle, comparable velocity and conditions. By the time we tried to take a few pics in was dark and the flash wouldn't work for some reason.
Once again a quality 250 grain 35cal bullet at 2400MV more or less = one shot kill on big game if placed right. I really like my dependable hunting 35s.
