I have the chance to buy a take off Winchester M70 HB in .222 at a very good price. If I was to buy it I would be putting on a Remington 700 action with a pitted barrel. Is this an easy and inexpensive thing for a gunsmith to do or are there complications?

The 70 threads are too small in diameter and a different pitch. The 70 barrel would require threading it smaller, installing a bushing on it, then threading the bushing for the 700.

Forget it - way too much work... spend the money on a new quality rebarrel...

The Winchester barrel will have to the original shank cut off, then be threaded, counterbored, chambered, fitted. Certainly routine work, but it isn't going to be cheap. It wouldn't make sense unless the take-off barrel has lots of life left in it.
This assmes that the diameter of the barrel in front of the original threads is large enough to provide a shoulder when fitted to the Remington action.
