M70 Boss

Might have a line on a Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight with the Boss system. Rifle is stainless synthetic and in 300win mag. My question is, can that boss be fully removed and thread protector installed? Or will a cut and crown be in order? Dont like systems like that on rifles. Also, assuming good condition, whats it worth? The guy needs money

Yes you can remove it and have a thread protector made to fit it.

If it has a Boss system (which actually works very well as designed) and you don't want a Boss system why buy it just to spend more money removing it?... and still looking like there is something wrong with the end of the barrel...

I like the Boss system for fine tuning the barrel harmonics. Had that on a Browning Stainless Stalker in .375 H&H awhile back and it worked great, but I used it with the supplied muzzle weight instead of the god-awful loud brake.

I not a fan of them. Im sure they work, but are loud and look goofy. Figured if the price is right, and a simple thread protector could be put in place, I would grab it. Dont really need another 300win but thats not the point
