M70 Coyote Light

I have a 243 and they are a Model 70 what can I say.
I did find some issues with it until it started to shoot well.
The magazine box binding against the action was the biggest issue. Once that was taken care of and the trigger work done so far now and then 1 1/2" at 250 yards. Still working on it though.

I like it but I think there are more accurate rifles out there, like a Ruger American precision.

It is what it is.
I wanted a heavy bbl. Model 70 and I got what I wanted and will work on it until it will do the best for me.
Then if not happy that's the way it is.
I am sure there it is more accurate than I am capable of.
I have yet to hit the 150 round mark.
Put a different scope on it this winter and if the weather co-operates I will be sighting it in tomorrow.

In 2010 I bought a Model 70 Stealth. It was a 12 twist 308, in a Bell & Carlson stock. Very similar to the Coyote Light. Was a very accurate rifle, I kind of regret selling it

That kind of grouping is closing in on .5 moa, if that is consistent I think I would be pretty darn happy with that out of a factory rifle!

Well I caved.....

Just too much of a cool thing to pass up. I’m impressed with the build quality so far.

Looks like Winchester has gone full Portugal now. The barrels used to say “Made by BACO....assembled in Portugal”, now it’s “Imported by BACO.... Made in Portugal”

Love that stock, mine is straight black with black speckles.
My bbl is marked, MADE IN USA . BACO INC. MORGAN UTAH

My Serial # is 35A (signifying Model 70) ZM what I think makes it a 2010. I bought it in 2012.
Wow how time flies.
Just installed a Bushnell Trophy X30 4-16. I used a ECW scope mount with weaver tactical rings.

FYI, If you are going to use a full length scope mount make sure you buy a WSM mount. The action is not a standard model 70 short action. I found that out the hard way.

They are nice to look at, congratulations.

I agree, the stock has a very nice feel to it. Thanks for the action length tip.

I was surprised to find out it only weighs 5oz more than my Exteme Weather. It appears to be much bulkier and has a heavier profile/longer barrel.

That's surprising. What is the Extreme Weather chambered in?

I see that Warne also makes a WSM Tactical mount. I have a page somewhere that shows the spacing of mount holes on various rifles. If I can find it I will fwd it to you.

That is a nice pair of Model 70's

The EW is in 270 win. On my refrigerant scale (1/4oz Accuracy)

EW- 7lbs 4oz
CL- 7lbs 9oz

I’m actually going to use the Burris Extreme Tactical 2pc based on the Coyote. I find them to be a great base.

Nice combination of guns, My 270 in a Kimber.

I did have two piece bases on my 243 but I went to the new 30mm tube scope it was longer so I put on a full length rail for the cool look, I am not concerned with weight on that setup.

What are you using for a scope?

Let us know how it shoots.

David

All my rifles have one piece picatinny rails on them so I can swap optics depending on changing seasons , needs, and whims....yeah I like Brownells and/or EGW rails on my rifles...they work for me. Find what works for you and run with it. My current production Featherweight Compact.308 rocks a Brownells rail for the WSM action as previously mentioned. They are great.

Hope this helps!!

Cheers, Barney

If you’re using a WSM base on your 308 featherweight does that mean the scope mount spacing is the same for both actions?

I was under the impression that the WSM action (bridge) is slightly longer than the short action.

That is interesting for me as well.
I can see it with the Coyote Lite rifles a they are chambered in the WSM rounds but not the short action Featherweights. Are they really WSM actions?

David

Well I have owned three of the current production BACO and / or Portugal stamped Winnie’s and all of them required and took the WSM labelled Brownells Picatinny rail..... that’s all I know.... Two of them in .308 and one in .243.....

Cheers, Barney

That tells me the new short action is the WSM action.
Good to know.
