M70 in .375 H&H - I "stumbled" onto one...

My Whitworth liked the following load.

270gr Hornady SP
78grs IMR-4350
R-P case
WLR primer
3.620" COL
2692 FPS

Barnes Manual Max. for 270 grain TSX? - Anybody?

Hi,

I just picked up a box of Barnes 270 grain TSX bullets to load in the .375 H&H. Does anyone here have a Barnes manual (I can't find one to buy locally)? I'd like to know what they recommend as a Max. charge of H4350 for use with this bullet.

Thanks for any help you can offer - Jeff.

Try this :

80gr H4350
Fed 215 Primer

Start at 77grs and work up to be safe.

Gibbs,

Here's one of how it looks now...

A close up of the Limbsaver "prefit" pad...

With the Leupold 2-7 Compact in place...

And one of the "Magnaporting defeat" attempt. It is high strength "epoxy" heatshrink...we'll see if it "holds"...

I'm impressed on the fit of the new pad. Looks good!! The Pre-fit Decelerators didn't used to fit that well.

I hope you put some oil or white grease under the heat shrink. It probably will hold moisture and pit nicely if given a chance.

To defeat the magnaporting...

I have heard of a concept. Don't know if it work or not..

You turn down the end of the barre a bit, and then solder on a 'collar' then reblue.

It should work, in theory. Cost more than the heat shrnk, though. :p

I did clean and lube the outside of the barrel before "shrinking on"...thanks for the comments and suggestions guys. :)

The whole idea here is as a temporary measure for experimentation - just to see what the rifle is like without the Magnaporting. If it seems worthwhile, then I plan to figure out a permanent, removable sleeve that I can use when hunting and remove on for range use.

Take it to a gunsmith and get a screw on cap to hide the magnaport. Or have him shorten the barrel to get rid of it.

The .375 H&H has minimal recoil and does not need porting... not that any rifle does...

Care to sit down behind my 416 rigby that is not ported or braked and touch a few off the bench??? Guaranteed a couple of em and you will want to quit for the day...:D

Nice rifle Jeff , congrats on a good choice

Good luck with that :D I see a mess of sticky , and hard to remove in the cards.

Levi,

I don't think it'll be too bad...I've used this at work on Electronic cabling and it usually just pops right off. We'll see.

Jeff.
