Scope selection largely depends on the type of hunting/game, rifle type and terrain expected. For the most part the chambering should be a secondary consideration.

I use low powered scopes on my 22/250 instead of a higher varmint scope. Reason is that I use my '250 for deer hunting and a 2x7 is a far better choice than a 6x18.

The scope I intend to use on mine is reflective of the west country bush i intend to hunt with it in. My logic in this scope selection is to have enough magnification for typical elk and moose ranges, if need be, but to have the wide angle FOV if i find that mr grizz has heard my shot and wants to claim my kill.
