Hello, I have a Sako M78 22lr with open sights, not the heavy barrel version. It’s in very nice condition with no rust or pitting but does have some very light handling marks on the stock. I’ve been trying to find a scope rail for it so I can mount a scope on it but haven’t had any luck. It’s been sitting in the safe not being used and I was considering maybe selling it but I haven’t been able to find another one to establish a value. I was hoping some fellow gunnutz might be able to help me get an idea as to what I should ask for it should I decide to sell. Thanks in advance

11mm rings work if you have the factory rail

Weaver #85 bases front and back have the correct hole spacing if you don’t have the 11mm rail

Screw threads are an issue as they’re metric oddball size 3.5 I think I ended up using some optilock screws and filling length to fit.

You’ll see em all over the place, a few on GP treat the owner thinks are gold. Parts are non existent. Mags are the same (some guys are making them in the states and uk) still pricy if you can get em

They are a nice quality gun but nothing really special.

Trying to source a factory rail has proven impossible. The weaver bases are something I didn’t know about. I was considering having them tapped to a more common size if I had found a rail but I think I’ll just leave it be. I appreciate the info. Thanks

I just got my old Sako M78 action out, as I’m about to fit a .17 Hornet barrel.
Unfortunately for me the factory Sako rail is missing, I have a pair of Sako bases off a Finnwolf L63 that sort of fit but not right.

On checking more I saw a pair Weaver #85 are correct but also a pair of #46 will work as I had two in my drawer & these will work same !

Oh I did just find a factory Sako rail for sale in the UK, it was £100 so not cheap !

There are two or maybe they have sold, but one was North of $2500 and the other slightly less...
Go check and see if they are still there and decide for yourself.
