M855 'Green Tips' situation down south

You guys are hilarious. Now I'm an anti-green tip armchair quarterback fud. All I was asking is why people are worried about the slim possibility of this happening here and what makes M855 unique other than it having a steel perpetrator tip. All this "well my scope or gun was made for it" is funny to me, try using another round with the same grain bullet and velocity and see what happens. My M400 Enhanced barrel is stamped 5.56 not M855. So Unless anyone can explain to me what makes M855 unique other than the steel tip you guys can carry on with your weekend warrior bromance.

Why does any one bullet of a certain weight perform better than another? Construction, BC, ogive, etc. ALL have an effect on the flight and terminal ballistics of a projectile. For example, a 165-grain .308 Barnes Tipped TSX will have a much different ballistic profile than a 165-grain Hornady SST. Again, many others have pointed out that it's a favourite for long-distance shooting, varmints, etc. Why do you from the Great Big Smoke feel an obvious need to stir the pot? Being where you are, I can understand that maybe you don't have opportunity to shoot past 100m, but does that mean you (or politicians and bureaucrats that think in the same vein) have a valid opinion on something that affects (or may affect) those who can?

OK. So everything being said...

Who here right now is using M855. Who is using this on a regular basis, it seems like a bunch of people in here apparently do, is this really the case?

I use it fairly regularly, although I don't have a lot of the Federal XM855 left, maybe 500 rounds. But I do have about 3000 rounds of PMC Xtac which is the same thing.

The "Why do you need this" crowd, need to be shaved and sterilized.

It's a principled argument "Why do you need _____?"

So, if you're planning on putting this out there, before you do: Stand in front of your bathroom mirror, and ask yourself "Why do I need _____?" and fill in the blank with any of the crap sitting in your driveway or crammed into your workshop.

Figured it out yet? Your answer is the same for every damn thing you own! Need? We need: air, food, water, shelter. Everything else is WANT! We live for want, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Obama and his libtard progressives "WANT" to do whatever they can to hurt gun owners, and I "WANT" to see them all crammed into a shipping container and dropped into Northern Syria.

Casual shooters "WANT" to be accepted by their anti-gun, libtard friends, and real firearms enthusiasts WANT to not be stabbed in the back by the D-bags that are supposed to be on their side!

Look's like no one's getting what they want today, eh?

If I buy ammo (or bullets) I buy on the basis of what works well in the gun and what I can get cheap.

Sometimes the best deal on ammo is surplus 855. I shoot it in the AR that shoots it very well. I have several ARs. If 855 get banned in USA then I would expect, short term, for some 855 to get dumped here, cheap.

Thanks Cpt. Obvious. I was wondering why they make so many different bullets for each caliber. Did you also know that the uniformity of the base of a bullet has much more effect on accuracy than the tip?

You sir are in need of a psychiatric evaluation or were you off your meds when you posted that?

Personally, I don't care if it is 855 or not.
The REASON why it is getting banned there is because "Its is a threat to law enforcement". This is a BS statement and worth the argument and fight back from the people. LE uses soft BA. Soft BA will not stop any version of that rifle cartridge. Meaning is it stupid politics in play that should get shut down. They WILL chip away until there is nothing left.

It's too easy, it shoots quite accurately out of most AR15's and is relatively inexpensive for the accuracy delilvered. That is why I bought a case of the PMC 62gr FMJ XM855 a while ago, the penetrator doesn't make any difference with the paper targets I shoot with it.

Surely there is an anti-firearm agenda going on but they could chip away for another 100 years and the US will still have more firearm related freedoms than we do. If anything it will make the ammo cheaper and more available here for you cry babies. Imagine how much those surplus crates of 7.62x39 or sks's would cost if they could be imported there.

Cry babies?
I am not crying about anything other then the US ATF acting like the Canadian RCMP.

Are you saying that because they have "room" to chip away for another 100 years and still have more freedom that the government should be allowed to chip away?

Point is, the "why" is subjective. "Why" restrict it is just as subjective as "why" you need it.

I wasn't referring to you and I'm not an American citizen so I could care less what they do.(Waiting for the "well if they do it there it will happen here" responses)

ok, how about I try a different tactic.
Do we "Need" it? (In the truest sense of the word)
No, we don't.
Just like we don't need guns, cars, or any luxuries in our lives.

But our society is great enough to allow us these freedoms, and just because of that...... makes it important for all of us to fight for keeping it. Because regardless on it being a need or a want. I am entitled to the choice to have it. (As long as I am not messing with someone else freedoms or rights)

Speculation causes undue panic . I had that stuff - green tip ammo many years ago and big deal . I sold it . if you want it buy it but to panic about it not a chance .

Well, that's a whole other debate right there, lol! To you, I'm all over the place. To me, you're so narrow minded, that I sort of wonder where your head is lodged...(cough cough rectum). Not to mention, there you go again; trying to tell me what I need and don't need.

If you don't like green tips, don't buy 'em. However, if I want to buy them or not, is none of your concern. That's such an irritating characteristic of the 'left' ie. so busy trying to tell other people what to think and do, instead of just minding their own business.

Considering all the material I gave you to work with, that's kind of a weak reply, eh? Ah well, I guess we agree to disagree. Take care

Classy response. I'm going to bow out of this thread. My intention wasnt to come across as somebody telling you guys what you can or can't use in your AR's. Perhaps all the negative responses pushed me to prove a point further than I intended. The bottom line is there are alternatives available in the unlikely event they ban it here. Perhaps some of you will get into reloading as I have to produce more accurate rounds for less. Not to mention that its more rewarding when you shoot a nice group with something you made and had fun doing it.

about as classy as the responses you have given in this thread... you didn't prove anything other then your inner fudd'ness and feelings of "if i don't see a reason for it, no one should have it"
