M88 - PSL or Galil?

Ok,

so I am going to modify my M88 receiver. Question is, do I do a full blown Romanian PSL (with real NOS PSL wood):

or a Galil ARM?

or a third option I'm not seeing?

I'm leaning towards the PSL, since it's not something one sees everyday.

I'm also not opposed to starting off with a .308 PSL, find a 5.56 valmet and ARMing it later

I'm still looking for a 5/10 round hunter mag also :)

Go with the Galil.
It's more compact with the folding stock. It's a non-restricted so it makes sense to have a small more easily transported setup.

Very jealous of your build, I'd love to build a galil clone one day.

Hey,

that's the bare receiver... nothing added. I asked GS Designs if he could 3D model a poly/cf adapter for hunters. I was the second person to ask him this, so it might happen!

If I do a PSL though, I'll send the receiver off to someone to mill/solder/etc it so it works with a PSL stock. (I havent found anyone yet so suggestions would be welcome.). My plan is to send the rifle to the pro, along with the PSL stock so they can have all the necessary pieces to do it!

But again, If I had access to a .223 Valmet, I'd do this one as a PSL for sure, and the .223 as an ARM/assault rifle look :)

I'm not willing to pay 10-15k for a 7.62x39 one, nor 6-9k for an M78.

I'm willing to pay up to 500$ for a .308 hunter 10(5) mag, but no one want to sell one, even at that price... ugh


These guns are always adventures to build... just finding parts is hard; especially legitimate NOS ones! It was easier to find the PSL parts than the ARM ones.

I bought an VEPR stock adapter, getting it this week. Hoping it would work. If you have the. Blueprint for the 3D model I might be able to reprint it.yea I saw an 8.62x39 for 13,500. Oh wow. I think G3 mag with abit of mod will work. Or get an AK parts kit and make it take AK mag lol

RPK furniture looks sweet! I am thinking about throwing the Galil gas block on mine but I am not sure if the inside diameter of it is the same as the valmet gas block? Does anyone know if it is before I send it off?
 
The Galil parts generally dont directly fit and you will probably need a new barrel cut for the Valmet receiver threads and the Galil barrel spec.

Strange enough the Galil and Valmet barrels are not interchangeable......

The M88 receiver is a PITA to fix the angle cuts so it doesnt look like bu-bu was working on it. Also, do research and reangle the back of the receiver as the Valmet angles dont match a Galil....

Generally I dont like side folding stocks but on a Galil clone you kinda need one.

I have often contemplated reworking my M-88.... but due to the complexity of the side cuts, I think a Valmet parts kit with a wood stock are in order. Then it doesnt look hokey...

If your really gonna make it a Galil..... you need to cut a new barrel, add material to the angle cuts, recontour the back of the receiver & drill a hole though the receiver for the switch.... that hole needs to be precisely cut !!!!

then once it all fits together, get it refinished in black and your G2G......

There was a guy on the forum that did all the work correctly a while ago and it looked very sharp, it might be the best one I have seen in a decade, of watching guys mess up their M88s....
