Some of us were playing around with a pair of my pistols at the range and at home over the last few days and well

we all agree the Hi Power is a far superior 9mm , fit, function, handling etc....

discuss...

I prefer the smaller grip of the Hi-Power, right up until I take the first shot.

I like a gun that doesn't bite and who's safety i can hit wearing gloves.

Compared to the M9 I'd agree, better hit potential on the first shot, and no 2x4 to try to hang on to. Also while they have fixed the M9's problems the BHP never really had problems to start with.

Purely comparing the M9 to the issued BHP (both Cdn and Brit), having played and fired them all, the Hi-Power is far superior for the following:

Grip
Finish (the issued M9 look like they arem 50+ yrs, easy to scratch , cheap finish) while our BHP have been in service for 3x as long (I know, arsenal refurb, but still...)
Safe (the British MK3 safe is superior to the M9, our is inferior), due to location
Ammo, the M9 does not like +P ammo, BHP love the hot stuff

Only the sight on the M9 are superior

justmy 2 cents

I prefer the Beretta. I think the grip is ergonomically excellent, it has a longer grip tang and easier to manipulate controls than the HP and, as a long time revovler shooter, I don't have any trouble with the DA first shot.

I have used a Beretta 92 Elite for USPSA Production division with excellent results.

I have a BHP but to make it do what I wanted I had to have a gunsmith install an extended grip tang, do an action job, put on extended, ambi thumb safeties, remove the magazine safety, fit a decent pair of sights and grips and checker the front strap. Now its a fine handling pistol but in its stock form it was wanting.

Toss-up.

Both are capable of superior accuracy. My friend has a BHP [Belguim made and assembled] that will shoot 595/600 at 50 yards. The US Army marksmanship Unit have Beretta 92FS that will do the same. So, accuracy is comparable in some exceptional circumstances. If you are talking box stock accuracy, it could be a toss-up.
Both has terrible triggers. The long DA arch of the 92FS has a longer learning curve. The BHP lever type trigger is also not much better. In the single action mode, the 92FS has a slight edge.
Both have a nice grip. Since they are both around the same money new: around C$900.00, for my money, I would rather have a Glock!

Hmmmmm......1911 vs. BHP? It's tempting but I think I'll pass on it. I've had my ration of vitriol this week. :stirthepot2:

Actually, Browning Hi-Power is a gross misnomer. The pistol we know as the BHP was 90% the work of the Belgian designer Dieudonne Saive, who also designed the FN Mle. 1949, FN-FAL and MAG. But "Saive Hi-Power" just doesn't have the same ring to it. Does it? I mean, who ever heard of a serious combat pistol with a French name?

Well sir, you still have a wonderful avatar.... :p

On the original discussion.... I've owned a few Beretta 92 series. From way back when the BHP, Beretta 92's and the S&W 59 were pretty much the only hi-cap 9mm's available in Canada. [Yeah, back when we used to legally have hi-cap mags... ;)]

Anyway, these days my money would go to the BHP on a choice between the two. My BHP MkIII fits my hand best and the targets tell the rest of the story.

I first thought this thread was a joke, but you guys are serious about the hi power.. really?
I dont understand why there are comments about the M9 having to large of a grip either.
I have always made the grips bigger as I found them to be too small, and my wife shoots a 92FS very accurately and says it is the most comfortable, well balanced pistol she has had ( and she is small).

And I am beside IM Lugger on this one, the beretta is my choice.

I wouldnt want a BHP is it was given to me. seriously.
