M91/30 PU scope mount pins

Does anybody use the pins with the scope mount? Are they necessary? I was talking to Jason at Gunco the other day and asked if I wanted them, as he does a lot of these, he says that not everybody uses them. Ultimately whats historically accurate - pin or no pin?

pin if they arent needed why were they used..........when i had my pu set up/built we used them.

The dowels serve as locating pins for the base and a reference for zero. If the base shifts with just the two machine screws, or if they back off, your scope is off and then wanders. More work drilling 4 holes than 2, but might be worth it. Measure twice, cut once!

You probably won't see much difference in the mounting with or without the pins but IMHO it's more historically accurate with them.

I use the pins as well. My logic is it's there for a reason, use them it's not really that much more work to set up.
