Hi guys

I'm planning to buy a mosin nagant 91/30 pu sniper but I am looking for the real thing. I don't want a "sniper" that have been made from different parts (bent bolt, replica Pu scope and scope mount) by the dealers or whatever. I am looking for a rifle that has been made in the russian arsenals and is an original Mosin Pu sniper rifle. So my question is where I could get one of these ?

Thank you

Original issue ones are getting hard to find, be prepared to pay a fair amount. There was a Hungarian one for sale on The EE Forum recently.

it depends how particular are you about "original".... Keep in mind that some of these "repro" snipers are 91/30s taken from war stores and turned into snipers on the same tooling that did the work during the war.

You can get an ex-sniper and buy a wartime scope and mount and then re-sniperize it but work must be done carefully. Or watch the EE and place a WTB ads.

They show up on the EE from time to time. Got myself an original matching one on there. It had been refurbed at some time though. Biggest thing you want to look for is a stamped number on the left side of the receiver near the woodline. This is the best method of making sure it's authentic. This method does not apply to all snipers.

The thing to remember here, and this is true for any collectable milsurp, is that the originals haven't been made in decades. With the UN regulations regarding the selling of small arms it's getting harder for importers to bring the few that might still be held in war stores to market. This means that, like the rest of us, you'll have to play the EE lottery. unfortunately there just isn't a "source" for this type of thing however the EE comes about as close as your going to get.

Something to keep in mind...don't think you're going to make money on an expensive Mosin purchase. The large number of people who love them do so largely because they're a $100-$200 rifle of excellent quality, with great history.

When you're trying to sell your real Mosin sniper for $1500-$2000, you'll find a very shallow pool of buyers.

That is not true for for example Enfield snipers.

Original are hard to find as it is plus export regulations stop anyone to sell it from Russian or any Ex-comunist block. It is consider National treasures in those countries. You get people on ebay selling original sniper scopes. Be ware those are made in Ukraine are not original. Made on the same equipment as in WWII but it is repro.
Original scope mounts that were made in WWII had cork seals between glass and metal. After 60+ years what do you think happens to cork seal. Bingo it so fragile that after 5 shots it will transfer into dust.
I am not trying to sell scopes that I have I am just telling for show only you can buy original ( Not from Ukraine or Poland those are good fakes) or you can buy repro from someone else.

Cheers,

Absolutely if I were to buy one of these I would not shoot it. Only add it to my WWII militaria collection.
