Mosins with serial numbers that are all-matching seem plentiful when looking on the web. It seems as though most people who talk about their latest finds on different forums mostly get their hands on mosins with matching serial numbers. Are most of these really forced matched numbers, or serial numbers that were put on by the importers?

From my understanding, refurbished m91/30s make up most of the mosins and due to the refurb process most are miss matched because the rifles are completely disassembled and the good parts are piled together by type with other rifle parts then rebuilt. This process should make a rifle with all matching parts rare and so the majority of the m91/30s out there should be missmatched?

Mosin where disassembled for refurb yes but only missing or damaged parts were replaced, pretty much like SKS's. I have a M91/30, parts match but the rifle have been refurb and the bore is excellent so probably just a stock change was involved in refurb process. Ofc somes maybe force matched but i dont think matching Mosin are so rare, based on what dealers have to offer.

After reading that artical, I think there are a number of people who believe they have all matching rifles, but do not realize their rifle has been forced matched. The reference talks about how the parts were restamped and the old serial numbers erased. It says an easy way to determine if the rifle has been forced matched is to check if all the parts have the cyirillic lettering before the serial numbers and if the font matches those found on the barrel.
