Thanks Arty,

One more thing I'll need to do, it seems, is to "de-blue" the bolt. Geez!

And I tested the finish on the wood, it's not shellac, it's definitely varnish. Once I figure out what would have most likely been on the wood prior to Bubba's work, I'll get to it.

Thanks Arty.

Claven, I doubt I'll find replacements, so I think I'm simply going to find flat head screws with the same thread. As far as the wood goes, I will strip the bubba'ed finish; what should I refinish it with?

Some use a pine tar finish (yes the stuff for preparing traditional wooden crosscountry ski soles), sometimes mixed with reindeer tallow for the Lapland and Karelia districts. I have been given some caribou grease, which is about the same.
Some other places have no finish at all and other ones use a mix of pine tree turpentine, raw linseed oil and beeswax. Yours looks like a good candidate for that finish once stripped.
If you need some beeswax, I managed to get a few pounds. I'm supposed to get some more this summer, the red kind, which comes from the nymphs' chambers but I don't know how much I'll get.
PM me.
PP. :)

Thank you, Mister SKS45.

I didn't know what the D stood for, although I DO know that there is no such letter in Cyrillic alphabet.

Stick around here long enough, I gotta learn something!

Have fun!
