Is this normal? Caught my eye while I was doing a field strip and noticed the rod is bent sitting on the block. Seems odd. I did some googling and nothing came up really other than why beretta switched to plastic for various reasons. I just don't like the idea of parts (especially plastic) under stress. Amazing pistol by the way..still learning to handle it.

Does the metal rod sit higher against the end block then?

As far as I can remember (out of the country right now), it is identical to the plastic one.

That said, my buddy has fired quite a number of rounds out of his with plastic guide rod and never had an issue,

My 30 year old Gen 2 Glock had the same plastic guide rod and it looked like a half limp d**k. Never had any issues with it and it would still be in my gun if a friend didn't convince me the thing was going to break. ( Never did!) Replaced it 25 years later!

+1
I wouldn't worry; both my M9A3 and 92FS Vertec have plastic/polymer guide rods and they don't affect anything. Companies are obviously happy to sell metal guide rods to customers who want to replace them just because.

The plastic rod might look kind of chintzy, but they do have some functional advantages compared to the standard steel one:

1. The plastic can flex, but the steel rod can get bent and tie up the gun.
2. The grooves provide clearance for debris.
