Anyone got loads for 30-30 Win. Gun is a Winchester Model 94. Hunting round, max distance of 80 to 90 yards. I think I want a heavy projectile, as this is my bush gun, short shots and for black bear. I love walking the trails with this gun and since I've got a press I'd like to try loading some of my own.

I've done some reloading for a 94 carbine in 30-30. 170 gr Hornady FP and top end of recommended load of WW748 from Win data. I don't normally use max load given but in this case for a hunting load it worked out fine. Good accuracy,no pressure signs and good case life. Start at least 10% lower and work up in your rifle.

150 grain jacketted with 29.5 gr. IMR3031. does wonders on bears.
Same recipe for gas checked lead bullets also Lyman 311041 or something similar has taken many deer and a couple of black bears.
My short range quick shooting rifle has always been a nice light 30-30 carbine with a peep sight, wish we could shorten it up even more like the trapper version.
In a heavily wooded area that I hunt, shots are never more than 50 yards and extremely quick response is needed as you get about 3-4 seconds max to identify the deer, raise the rifle and take the shot.
