I have a M95/24 that a uncle gave me and was wondering is someone could help me with something. I took it to the range last weekend after giving it a good cleaning and looking it over to make sure everything looked ok. He also gave me some surplus ammo he had for it that looked pretty good and from my research was dated in the 60's or 70's. When I went to chamber a round it would not chamber easily and I had to really ram it good. After firing I had to tap the bolt with a small piece of wood to get it out. It was not stuck that bad I just could not pull it back by hand. I tried it one more time and got the same results. According to my research the M95/24 a 8x57 and the ammo is also 8x57. Any advise?

Also the rifle has a cut down stock that I would like to replace with the correct one. If someone knows where I may find one that would be welcomed. Thanks

For starters, 95/24's should be fed ONLY from the mag. Do not single-feed or you can have similar issues and even a broken extractor.

Nevertheless, I would suggest brining it to a gunsmith to get the headspace checked and make sure the chamber is not too short.

Does the bolt match the rifle's serial number?

I'd make sure that the bolt is clean and lubricated, and that the receiver, especially the chamber is good and clean.

You should also note that straight pull rifles need to be cycled differently than turnbolt - fast and vigorously. If you try slow and sure, you'll have difficulty both ways. That alone could account for your issues.

Is not 7mm for sure. It was fed from the mag. Maybe the chamber needs a good scrubbing. It did sit for 20 years without being touched and was a little rusted when I got it but it cleaned up nice. I took the bolt apart and cleaned it really good plus it cycles fine with out a round in the chamber. The 2 shots I did fire at 100 yards where only 1" apart.

I would like to get this back to close to original condition as possible as it belonged to my grandfather.
