I like the Swedish Mauser so much I decided to convert one to a more hunter friendly configuration. Thinned stock down a bit on the wrist and sides.
Reworked trigger to a lighter single stage, 19 1/2 in. barrel, recrowned, scout base and Nikon 2x20mm Encore scope, refinished stock and blued hardware except receiver and barrel. D.O.M 1901, now ready for whitetails.

That sharp intake of air you hear is sphincters puckering. I fear you may have brought this over to the wrong forum...

Trim, light, and not entirely unattractive, but I sense this will not end well.

I've had a few really nice milsurps, some M96s and a 98 Brazilian M1908, I refused to alter them in any way. I actually sold them to good homes but kept this one since I wanted a M96 Scout for hunting. Not really wanting to upset anyone, guess I had it coming posting on here.

Yuck......you could have gotten away with just using the scout scope mount, but IMO, the chop job looks horrible.
That being said, it's your rifle and there is no crime in altering it in whatever way you see fit. (But, you did ask for opinions!)

Yay! A milsurp that will actually see the light of day and be shot more than once in the next decade!

You downgraded a competition ready rifle. I dont know your thought process on changing the 2 stage trigger to single stage. People usually pay for 2 stage triggers! Plus I cant imagine a bore so horrible it would need recrowning, or shortening to that extent. Usually these Swedes have decent barrels on them. Collector 67 had it right. Just the scout scope mount would have sufficed, and you would have had a better shooter (and better resale if you still didnt like it).

To each their own...

Another beauty bites the dust.. Hacked to death after so many years of loyal service, some people just cant help to leave well enough alone , they always have to customize everything even old collectable relics .. RIP Swede Mauser :(

My first attempt I used a non drill and tap base that fits on the original sight base, it wouldn't hold zero, plus I wanted a rock solid platform I could depend my life on, so I went with the XS Sight system. Anyways I now have a rifle built on a superior action with old world quality and modern sight system, short and handy for hunting, very accurate and my 16 year old son loves it.

I have a feeling that 16 year old boy will cherish that particular rifle for many years. Therefore, you've done the right thing.

And I like it too BTW :)

Cliche comments aside, this rifle will get SHOT! As it should.
Not just fondled at home or stowed away and part of some hoarders obsessive acquisition infliction.
Spend time with your son, the rifle will be glad being used and out there in the field. Enjoy the time you have. Afterall, you can't take 'em with you.

Well he should have sold that rifle before he chopped it for about $350 to $400 then bought a already Bubba sporter for $150 off the EE and spent the difference on hunting equipment or ammo. Look at all the thousands of Lee Enfields that were sportered in Canada . A non molested example brings $500+ , they used to be dirt cheap even more so than Mosins .
