M96 6.5x55 max load

Like everyone has said work up carefully and if it was me I'd be checking with my chrono to make sure things are where they should be.

I have many swedes and some will tolerate hotter loads some not so much.

My favorite is a 96 FSR target rifle. It has a very tight chamber and the bore gauges on the small side.

That rifle shoot sub .5 MOA groups with just 43.5 grains of H4831 and a 140 grain match bullet.

During my load work ups years ago once I hit 46 grains I noticed major signs of presure which got worse as the rifle got hotter.I settled on 43.5 grains as that was the best accuracy and lowest charge. That load stays sub moa our to 600m or so with light recoil.
The 96 action is very strong and I personally don't think a max load is dangerous as long as the load has been chrono'd and there's no signs of pressure.

Thanks guys, here are the facts, I'm within SAAMI specs, Hodgdon calms their loading data is safe for old mil-surps, my rifle and brass case show no sign of pressure. no access to chrono - therefore no muzzle velocity, but from ballistic calculation, (47gr H4831SC & 140gr Sierra GK) is around 2700fps.

I'm comfortable with the load, I worked up from 43 grain with 1gr increments, other than 47gr, other loads shoot 2'' at 200m, and 47gr shoots 1'' at 200. I'm staying with the load

seems like the moral of this thread is, if you have a 100 year old rifle, be cautious and have fun.
thanks again for all your inputs.
