hey guys, i was wondering if any of you could point me in the direction of a cheap sling that would be authentic/semi-authentic to what an M97 trenchgun would have worn.

thanks

Most of the one's sold with a sling seem to be wearing the M1907, but that's probably got very little to do with what they were issued with. Try and find some period photos of it in use and see what they show.

I've got one and have been told the 1907 sling is "right". However, I've also heard M14 canvas slings are appropriate to Vietnam era guns, but never heard any proof...I know Guarder makes a cheap 1907 repro that looks good after being rubbed with olive oil!

If your M97 is a solid frame model then the M1907 leather sling or the Kerr "No-buckle" sling is what you need. If the gun is a take-down model then a m1942 leather sling or the M-1 web sling will be right.
Note; the M1907 and M1942 leather slings were the same thing...they were just listed differently in the ordnance manuals.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
