m98 custom

Nice rifle, you should consider a fn style bolt shroud. Since you have a trigger with a safety the fn shroud would give it cleaner lines.

Of course this is just my opinion, nice rifle either way.

Caliber is 308 win. It was my brother in laws passed away 10 years ago and was ill for many years before that, rifle hasn't seen much use sat unused a long time.

I believe that was made with a Fajen semi inletted stock blank. Very common before wood stocks became almost extinct.

Nice rifle. I like how the stock shroud has been modified to get rid of the safety hole.

I'm a little puzzled by the recoil pad. I doubt the original builder of such a classy rifle would have been happy with the pad.

That is a perfect example of a 1960's or 1970's custom rifle as built by so many gunsmiths who were active at the time. On top of that, it's nice work. If I had built that in my early years, I would be pretty happy with it. Stylistically, I might do some things different today but level of the workmanship still looks good to me. I'm shocked that it isn't a 270!

Nice old custom.

I wouldn't change much,....other than the barreled action....that stock would look good on a commercial action without the thumbcut, proper bolt shroud and a chambering to better match the action length...like a 280 Rem or a 35 Whelen,....or 270 Win..;-)
