M98 stripper clips

To be honest the U.S. or eBay has the best selection. Mostly everything in Canada is SKs, Mosin, or garand. The occasional Carcano or NcStar stripper clip are also here.
Look for Romanian or Turkish stripper clips. They are cheaper and work fine.

Any Canadian sources on Mauser 8mm stripper clips?

I bought a few from Numrich Gun Parts in the U.S. when I was ordering some other stuff, they were fairly pricey though.

I eventually picked up over a dozen at a gun show (everything the seller had), maybe a gun show is your best bet.

As for ammo, there is stuff available locally or by mail order, but we ended up learning to reload. I was in a hardware store today and happened to see some commercial hunting ammo prices... yikes the latest prices are way up over last couple years!

Will Swedish Mauser clips not work? They’re fairly common and cheap up here and I’ve found them to work with a fair number of different cartridges. They may not fit your receiver cutout though. Could be worth a shot for $3.

Swedish Mauser clips are wider than the German clips, they don't work in German Mausers.
From memory the German clips are 13 mm wide ,the Swedish one about 14 mm

I have used Swedish stripper clips in M96 and M98 rifles with several different calibres. They always worked well for me.

Thank you. I will try again.
My previous attempt with Swedish stripper clips was not successful.
I have an M98 action, but feeding ( excellently) to a 6.5 x 55 chamber and barrel. Less than one MOA with peep sights at 100 meters.

Swed clips may be worth a shot. I don’t really need them it’s for a 9.3x62 just curious if it works more than anything.

Just to save you the aggravation of buying the wrong clips,I measured the guides in my German Mauser k98-13.4 mm,and my Swedish Mauser-14.7 mm,so the stripper clips are not interchangeable.
The German clips have 3 dimples on each side, the Swedish 2 dimples and should you run into NATO ones they have only one dimple per side and are about the same width as the Swedish ones

98 action uses 98 clips
96 action uses 96 clips

It's the action type, not what it says on the barrel

Not exactly.

There is 4 main types of Mauser clips.

No bump, the first design commonly used on the 1889 Mausers and 1891 Argentine Mausers as well some rifles retrofitted for them such as the M1909 Argentine Mausers.
Two bump, the second design, commonly used on the M1893 Spanish Mausers.
Two bump Swedish, bigger than the standard 2 bump design but otherwise the same. Used in the M94 Swedish rifle variants (M94 carbines, M96, M38). Also works very well in the Arisaka rifles
Three bump, used in most M98 actions unless they are set up for a earlier standard of stripper clip (such as the Argentine M1909).

It is important to know which Mauser variant specifically your working with to know which type is needed.
