m98 to m96 bottom metal

I was wondering since finding a hinged trigger guard is so hard for a m96 swedish Mauser could you buy a m98 hinged guard and shorten the front hole back by cutting and re-welding it.? That is something I could do my self. I do not have a milling machine to convert one.
 
I don't have a 96 to compare but if everything else matches, like the mag. well etc. I don't see why not. --- John
 
M96 and m98 are very different
use reference asm96 small ring Mauser and large ring mauser
try m38 on tradex they can help you or at least guild you
