Not my area of expertise however a friend has asked me about this pistol in 7.65mm. I believe it's a type 1...SN 3008x which makes it right at beginning of production 1939 (?). German proof marks. Is serial number correct for year I guesstimated? Any collector interest? Valve? It's in very good condition. Ron

I know a little about the model. The serial number sounds funny for a German Occupation pistol. If it is a MAB Model D Type 1 German production fell in the 47000-97000 range with the exception of L prefix serials from 0001-1160. No one seems to know what service the L prefix guns were made for(maybe Luftwaffe?) but they were apparently not stamped with WaA.
German pistols fron s/n 47000-86400 should have WaA 251 and those from s/n 86400-97000 should have WaA D20. Those are the accepted ranges for German production MAB pistols not saying yours isn't but the serial is really low. I have read that many type 2 pistols are floating around with WaA markings and these were not produced until AFTER the war was over. Someones attempt to make a relatively unknown handgun a little more desirable. Value even if German is lower because like Corps said, they are prohibited and not many have a license to own one.
The D model began production in 1933 at serial number 10730. In 1939 the French Army contracted 16000 D models from around serial number 31000 to 47000 when German production began. Your gun may have been produced in 1939 like you said but I don't know how it got WaA stamps. I don't know this stuff off the top of my head, a friend of mine has one and I did some reearch on it for him. Hope this helps.
