Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

Slamfire Radio podcast has an interview with Maccabee about the SLR, worth a listen.

Answers a few questions - upper is bolted together, bolt threading into a steel helicoil. The guys who designed this work at the CSC and one of them is licensed as a master gunsmith in Germany.

Makes it seem a little less like two guys with a CNC machine, and more like two guys who know their ####.

Ya, with a $1000 upper/lower set? I've been critical of cheesy crap like ATRS's Modern series using DPMS lowest bid parts while still being toted as high end. I'm not giving this one a pass at the $1000 price range for something that seems sub par.

I'll wait to see what it actually is on final production before deciding. But I don't like having to do a Mickey mouse jerry rigged system to make something work that should be designed for it's intended use. Again, will have to see what it actually entails. Just voicing some concerns right now from what I'm reading.

I wouldn't worry about a helicoil The stuff I make gets used in a 40 ton press all day every day, and the customers specifically ask for helicoils. we haven't had a helicoil fail ever, that I can remember anyway.

Just saw the dealer posted MSRP $2499 for whole rifles next yr. There goes the "inexpensive AR lookalike" dream.

Only if you use their choices. I figure I can do this for less than 2k with the stuff I have kicking around - probably a lot closer to $1500/1600. And I think the quality will still mostly be there - and if I'm being honest, I'm not sure I'd notice if it's not, as my guns are almost always capable of out shooting me. Besides, I can always upgrade it later on when one finds a deal or two.

I think moderate deposits to hold place are fine, but I do not agree with pre-sales, especially with the roll out of a new product. I genuinely don't believe Maccabee will meet their estimated delivery dates. This is nothing against them, it's just from my personal experience in manufacturing. There's always something that can go wrong. Of course, I could be totally wrong. Maybe Maccabee has everything ready to go.

For example, just recently I had a case of totally unexpected issue completely destroying a delivery time. Prototype parts worked excellent, so I made a larger batch to fill the order. Final operation on one of the parts is a slight bend and they all cracked at the bend. Just a slightly different batch of aluminum, couldn't handle the same bend as was done on the prototypes. I re-designed the part and changed the bending process and all was well but I missed the delivery date. Stuff like that, especially on new products, always pop up.

Neither do I - and they still got $100 from me. So if they do hit their March 2018 timeline, it will be a pleasant surprise. If they do not, then it's not that big a deal. And worse case, $100 won't break the bank should something happen to the plan. A disappointment for sure, but it's not like it's going to bankrupt me or cause me any pain.

A delay I can live with but I have over 2k worth of parts that need a receiver. On another note be careful if your handguard has anti rotation tabs. Sounds like the slr is slightly wider and might not accommodate them.

The possibility of always being able to upgrade this rifle is what makes it worth it. Also building it on your own and as funds are available is another thing to consider. Easier to buy the receiver and build as you can than just coming up with 3k on the spot. And maybe after the R&D is paid of price of the receiver will come down in 2-3 years, meaning more people will be able to purchase one.
