MacDef SLR "retro" A2 rifle build. $1845 all in

That is EXACTLY what I'm planning to do with my Maccabee parts, except I want to do it with a carry handle with A1 sights and retro A1 furniture with the triangle handguard. Where did you get the Stag parts?

edit: Arms East. Cool!

Arms East. They don't carry the kit on their website so I called their toll free number and asked and they were able to order it in for me.

Stag Arms has a sale on for a few more days. After that the price goes up.

Thanks! I actually found something even more suited to me on their website, as I already have a spare stock, BCG and LPK in the parts drawer:

Stag 15 Retro Upper
ST-15-RET-UP

Just the upper, no bcg, for $485. Pretty decent deal - $540 after taxes and shipping!

Ya I saw the upper on their site and that's what got me interested but I still needed the rest of the parts. The prices are pretty good right now. Did you order the upper?

Yup, ordered. I was looking for an SA20 upper, as they have a forward handguard retainer that accepts either round or triangular handguards, but I'm sure I can make this one with the round retainer work with the triangular handguards.

Awesome, congrats on your order! If you look closely at some of the pictures of the Stag Retro I think the forward handguard retainer is actually triangular. I believe the round handguards were made to fit in the triangular retainer so the retainer didn't have to be changed? Hard to tell exactly, I'm not an expert on this. Guess we'll find out when they show up.

The early to mid era A2 hand guards were cut at the forward end to fit both the round and triangular guards.
At some point they switched to A2 style round hand-guards which only fit the circular caps.

It's hilarious that after all these years of being able to easily build my preferred retro AR's that there is a hard shortage of A1 and A2 parts and 20" barrels coming real soon :(

You're right - I took another look on the website and the retainer is triangular. Which is absolutely awesome for the build I plan to do :)
