Hi guys
I'm a completed idiot when it comes to anything mechanical.
I've got an older European made rifle from the 50's and I just know that I'm going to mess up the action screws some day.
I'm pretty sure that those screws can't be replaced with original screws unless I buy another identical rifle.

Would a machinist be able to make me a couple of identical spare screws?
Or is there a better way to go about getting a a few screws as spares?

Making a tiny screw isnt impossible but its not easy. He would need an example to duplicate or very specific drawings.

Yep that would do it. He would need a lathe and proper tooling but it should be doable. Id expect to compensate for a few hours labour.

What rifle and which screws?
European probably means metric, and many gunsmiths' lathes don't cut metric.

Send me a pm, im not in calgary but im sure ill be able to help you out. (Manual machinist for 12 years and have full access to a large machine shop (my work) after hours)

It's probably metric.
It's an old Brno model 21.
They are just the two actions screws that most mauser type of rifles have.

I believe those threads are standard M98 threads... NOT metric - 1/4" x 22tpi. As common as could be on Mauser's... Check it out first and then go buy yourself a set of commercial Mauser 98 screws...

I don't understand how you will mess up the action screws... perhaps you should not own a screwdriver...

If you are the type of guy that can't properly take a screw out with the proper screw driver, maybe you should just shoot them and don't mess with stuff.
More guns are screwed by owners than by ammo, I find.

I agree 100% and yet I can't help myself from screwing around excuse the pun

If you need screws, First thing to figure out, is diameter and pitch. Then, you get a box and grind to desired lenght.
If its out of your skills/ knowledge, stop playing joefingers and take it to a professionnal before #### happens.

Get a pair of Mauser screws. See if they fit. Adjust length if needed. Shouldn't cost more than $10.

He is prolly like me guntech .
In that he likes to fix things till they break.
But, the info on the action screws is a very good tip on where he needs to start looking and second is to take the guy up in Nova Scotia who offered up his service.
but, the commercial screws are all he likely needs.
