Okay here's the situation.... I often replace the stupid cheesy roll pins that the Kommunists use to secure the op rod guide on the Norinco barrel. I employ a 1/8" diam x 3/4" long roll pin that slides in and out of the existing factory hole (that used to employ a metric pin).

Then I would flare open that pin while it's halfway INTO the op rod guide (hole), FLARE it wider/open with a very specialized 'flaring' tool that only the M14 clinic attendees from the SW Ontario (EESA hosted) session will know ;)

After it's opened up a bit, I will drive in a 1/16" diam x 1/2" long roll pin INTO the 1/8" diameter roll pin. This combination will solve the loose oprod guide problematic to many of the Norinco M14.

Okay... here's my problem: I bought a whack of these pins at Home Depot several years ago. They NO LONGER stock them, so I need a source of these 2 sets of pins BEFORE the Edmonton clinic.

Any of you machinists and mechanics know where I could get about 30 or 40 or 50 of each size ? Dunno if I feel like driving to Brafasco in Barrie from Collingwood, but I might have to.... hey... maybe I can ride over there one sunny afternoon on my 1100 VTwin Shadow Sabre....

Any suggestions ? I tried RONA and Home Depot (Collingwood and Guelph)

Peace out!

Barney

If you have a local NAPA, UAP, Fishers or Acklands-Grainger, they may have kits which include these sizes. I have bought them before and still have a nice kit. It came from one of these guys, I forget which.

I've got a UAP here in Collingwood, I'll give them a try on Mon AM. At least Princess Auto is in Barrie.

Thanks for all your help. I'll get back to this thread. :D

These guys are "local" both in Barrie

JH Varty Machinery
FK Machinery

Both of them will ship if you want. So no need for a trip to Barrie.

Princess Auto carries these. I have an unopened 120pc kit that I'll bring to the SG Clinic. Need more? Let me know and I'll hit PA next week.

Be advised that in this case you will be replacing Chinese with Chinese, it's Power Fist stuff.

cablemonkey: You must recognize that I 'm the master of the "Welfare" method of fixing things. I don't want people (or newly formed M14 addicts) to be scared about fixing things or tweaking their $ 400ish M14's into shooting smaller groups while spending a shztload of money (to prevent #### loss). Sadly many M14 lovers end up spending boatloads of money (can you say: SAGE EBR stock?) for upgrades that might not get them to fill their moose (deer, elk, doe, buck) tag since some expensive upgrades don't help make the rifle more shootable and also more fun (read: more practice shooting). So I'm always after the cheaper and quite often, the more effective tweak!! Besides where the heck in Smalltown, Ontario (or NB or PEI or BC or Newfie Scotia) are you gonna find 'metric' roll pins ?

Peace be to journey (and download my 2004 M14 Abbotsford Clinic to listen to my jokes)

Canadian Tire has roll pins. You may need to ask a parts monkey, but they do have them for use in the shop. Not sure if they'd have any that small though.

Ok, I get it. Like doing a bike repair on a stripped 5mm bolt by re-tapping for 1/4-20.

What does tightening up the rod guide do to improve the rifles performance, beyond properly securing it?

I think i have a roll pin kit in the shop, i might have to fix my guide.

I have an older all mechanical lathe, what cool things can I make for my norc?
