Hey fella's , in one month from today i leave home on a 1.5 day drive to the Yukon/NWT border, then heading into the Mackenzie mountains to set up camp for two weeks or so. I'll have tags for dall sheep, grizzly bear, black bear, moose, woodland (mountain) caribou, wolf, wolverine + small game. I don't intend to fill half of them but atleast the sheep hopefully. Just wanted to hear from anyone who's been up there to get some pointers? also to make all of you that haven't jealous!!!!, Thanks Chad

Wow! I'm looking forward to some great pics!!! Right now I'm in Yellowknife and my wife and I are really enjoying it!!! The north is GREAT!!!

Enjoy your hunt!

Cheers
Jay

I'll wave at you from the other side of the mountains....I'll be in the Yukon chasing Dalls, moose, caribou and grizz. Can't wait to see your pics....hopefully I've got some to share as well!

Get up real high and try to get a view of the Rogue River......That's where I will be September 5-29th. Enjoy your trip.:)

I hunted that area three times on the Yukon side, 2003, 2004 and 2006. I can't stress enough the importance of physical conditioning, and GOOD boots and rain gear. Much more important than what rifle you bring. Have fun!

Yes, conditioning is key....no ponies on this hunt.....just backpacks!

to those who have been in the mackenkie mountains, any idea if there is any goats around the canol trail area?? i heard that there wasn't so i was not planning to get a tag. Also, any other tips from any veterans of this area????Conditioning ....check, good gear..... check, 300wsm, 4570.......check, Also is there any chance of seeing ducks or geese, and small game animals, thanks, Chad

quote" "any chance of seeing ducks or geese, and small game animals"
- No ducks or geese worth bothering with, it's fast rocky river country, not ponds. Could be a few in some marshy areas, but you'd likely be hunting moose there anyway. Numerous ptarmigan and a few spruce grouse. Never saw even one rabbit, but they are supposed to exist.
There are definitely goats along the south Canol road in the YT, can't say if they exist East of the YT/NWT border.
