I have been storing 156 grain FMJ bullets that I bought long enough ago that it was possible to buy bullets on ebay, and I need to make a new set of brass for the 6.5X55 AI. So I loaded up a hundred, with new prvi brass, and hope it will make as good of brass for AI as the NNY brass did. I prefer fireforming with bullets as it gives me a reason to shoot a bunch, and it is a great time to play, try long off hand shots, shoot quick 3 shot groups off hand. The only thing is a hundred is a lot of barrel cooling time.. It is always fun to see how big of a tree a fmj will shoot through..

I have seen one 30-30 AI, and have a 303 AI.. I really do not load it a lot hotter than a hot standard load, I get about 2500-2600 out of a 156 grain bullet from a 24 inch barrel, but that is hot enough for me, I heard about 2750 fps from 160's when I did it, but now I keep it for case life, I can load 139 grain bullets to about 2850 which give or take is in the 270 range, and is on the good side of the 270 in terms of BC and SD. It would really work for an all around rifle, I have shot two moose with it, one with 156 grain no name European bullets and one with 139 grain Norma Plastic point bullets. They both worked well. I have a bunch of 92 grain hollow point bullets for it, which I have never tried. I bought 60 lbs of the above mentioned bullets years ago for $160, and am no where near shooting through them. I have other and bigger rifles, but at the ranges I hunt and shoot at it is lots for me. It is a '96 mauser that has had a peep sight installed, but as my eyes age it is at risk of getting a scope.

I went to shoot them to fireform them, and only had time to fire 50. My forming loads were mild at 2200 fps. I do have RCBS dies for the AI, and I loaded up the 50 with load I had established long ago for them, and remembered that you do not need case lube for an ackley cartridge, they are straight walled enough that they do not stick..
