Made a test... Does changing mag in a semi affect accuracy... Pic

A while ago , i made a little test on my MR-1 to see if one mag could shoot differently than another one, this is my second MR-1 mounted with a Zeiss 3X9X50, so i loaded 2 rounds in each mag, 2 LAR-15 and one Marstar 30-5 steel mag, on the bags, i proceed in shooting at 100 metres each mag for a total of 6 rounds... the result proved without a doubt that at least in a MR-1 ,it have no affect on accuracy... 3 mags one group .6... If you reposition properly and fully reseat the rifle into your shoulder after the mag change, there should be no impact.

The nice thing about practices like this is that you were able to do empirical testing to PROVE to yourself that this is true.

Once in the chamber, the round doesn't know how or care why it got there. (unless the mag deforms the bullet, which is almost impossible). So mags can't affect accuracy.

Great post and good shooting. You want to sell me that MR-1? :cool: What load were you using?

The handload used was my pet load of 77 gr Lapua Scenar behind a max load of BL-C2, BR-4 OAL to fit the mag @ 2.265 inch, as you can see it is a very thight fit but do work flawlessly... JP.

I did that test because my brother AR-15 would jam once in while with the Lar-15 mag and groups werent that small while using that mag and it would do nothing with regular 30-5 steel mag and groups were smaller... JP.

(1) Great bullet selection. Although, I feel the 70 gr Berger VLD's (.371 BC) are superior to the Sierra and Lapua 77 gr bullets. The 70 gr VLD is lighter, faster and almost has the same BC. Plus they work in 1/9" twist barrels. When I shot Sierra 77's and Berger 70's back to back from 100 to 600 yards, the Berger's were always higher on the paper. I couldn't detect any difference in bucking the wind.

(2) 2.265", nice. I always go 2.260", perhaps I should try a longer OAL.

My old .223 load was:

77 gr SMK
24.0 gr Varget
Remington 7 1/2 primer
OAL 2.260"
Any brass

My latest "Go To" .223 load with any barrel up to a 1/9" twist is:

70 gr Berger VLD
24.9 gr RL-15 (warm, but good :D)
Remington 7 1/2 primer
I'll try 2.265" OAL because of your post ;)
Any brass.

I got the 77 gr Scenar by accident a co-shooter was getting out of the sport gave me many hundreds of those, i tried them and never look back at 300 metres i am getting 2.5 to 3.5 inch groups all day long from my MR-1, that is coyote rifle territory... JP.

Well your groups are better than mine so who I am to try am help you. :p

So how much are you asking for that MR-1? ;)
 
I own 3, 2 for every day shooting one for close work with the metallic sight ( great target aquisition from those, maybe the best open sight i own) one with a 3X9X50 Zeiss for 0-300 metres and one bnib keeping for posterity and sorry none of them are for sale, i hate selling a rifle, i all my life only sold 2 and trade one out many moulto... JP.
