Nice looking rifle! I had a Mark I single shot I refinished and ended up trading. I kinda wish I had'nt, it was a nice shooter.
Opps! That was accidental lol.
This finish is actually better than the original one imo. Much more durable too. I used the birchwood casey kit.

So the power went out at work yesterday and I had the afternoon off. I decided to take it to the range despite the rain (in hindsight I shouldn't have gone shooting in the rain lol). I didn't have a boresighter so I figured I could just sight it in by trial and error. I was wrong. After trying for a while I gave up and just tried a few shots with the iron sights which are very accurate. Iron sights are fun! 
Anyway, the made in china scope mounts that came with the scope are pretty low quality. The two I have have different angles on the tightening screw that attaches it to the dovetail, which means the scope wasn't mounted parallel to the barrel. You could actually see this with the naked eye as I later discovered. Even after turning the windage adjustment all the way to one side it was still off target. I fiddled around with it at home and managed to get it line, but I still need to range test it.

Here are my attempts at refinishing woods on my Marks.
I've got a Lakefield Mark II that was my first gun, I got it for Christmas when I was 12. Needless to say, it's showing a little wear lol. I'll never part with it, and I'd love to restore it.
Can you post some info on what products you used and how you did it? Your gun looks GREAT and I'm inspired to give it a shot with mine.

My list of products is simple to say the least.
a fine furniture finish remover..I used the spray on.
bag of 0000 fine steel wool
tru-oil
Min-wax
spray down the woods,let the remover bubble and wipe off the mess.
use steel wool to smooth and do the last removal of any finish that may be left on the woods.
using steel wool...apply a couple coats of tru oil letting them dry between coats.
Finally a couple of Min -Wax coats rubbed good.
the metals, I left as they are as the colour and wear is the guns history and it looks more realistic for a 50 year old gun. The metals can be reblued and kits should be available at your gun stores.

This is basically the same thing I did. I sanded before applying the tru oil. I used a birchwood casey kit and followed their instructions exactly. The kits are about 20 bucks and you refinish a number of rifles with the supplies they give you.

Those are beautiful rifles guys. I have three Lakefields in the cabinet (well the newest one is a Savage Mk. II w/accutrigger). I realllly like them, it's nice to see folks doing what you are doing to keep them sharp. The Savage, i just picked up used and it's mint, the other Mk. II I just handed down to my son and it's still really clean, and the old MK. I is nice but refinishing wouldn't hurt it. Good posts here with good info, thanks!!
