Cooey made 22's and shotguns for most all the major retailers in Canada at the time. Ashdown had the rabbit, Eatons had the ranger and eatonia, Marshall Wells had the sniper and Simpson which later became Simpson Sears had the sure shot. Woodwards had mercury,Northern Hardware had hawkeye. These of course were existing models with only the model name stamped on them. So the sears model 6C is the same as a cooey model 64.

The savage rimefires made today are in the old Cooey plant in Cobourg,Ont.

Its interesting to note that Cooey made no center fire arms but it is rumoured that some employees on there own time built 30-30s out of the single shot barrel/action. It would be a rare find for sure-----Cowboy

they also made the Ace .another interesting bit of history when Canadian Arsenals LTD was between the the No 4 series of rifles and the Fn series they kept the workers busy building H+R .22's and shotguns there are not many around I own one with H+R Longbranch Ontario on the Receiver and I have seen a SS shotgun also marked .My .22 is built like a brick sh%t house with that nice wartime blueing LB used to do .also CAL built Nylon 66's for Remington so if your lucky enough to have a Nylon 66 with made in Canada on the barrel you have a little bit of history to shoot. I remember the Remington sign on the CAL building in the early 70's

I bought my Winchester 490 in 1984...used ..from a gun shop in Kitchener, Ontario...saw the ad in the GunRunner paper..in the days before the internet.

I really am impressed with this .22..very well made..with a nice smooth trigger

Just a little corection here....savage rimfire's are manufactured in Lakefield Ontario not in the old cooey plant in Cobourg....old cooey plant has not been running for a few years now....later

At one time I owned a Cooey Mod. 71 in .225 Win. which was indeed a center fire rifle.

Yeah they made 308 and 30-06 as well. Don't remeber model numbers but can get them once at home.
