Made myself some (more) 1911 grips

It's been awhile since I tried my hand at making some grips so I went back at it - here's a set I have just about finished. Still need to do a bit of final polishing. These were made with an acrylic product called "Fantasy Marble" from Jantz Supply. I have them on my Norc right now but think they would look sharp on a stainless pistol. The colour is called "Black Cherry". The spots of orange are just from the camera flash. Interesting stuff to work with - you've got to like the smell of melting plastic! I also picked up some multi-layered laminated wood product called "Dymondwood" from the same supplier. It looks like it will be interesting stuff to work with as well.

un-checkered grips on a .45acp might make the gun a little hard to maintain
your grip, more so in hot weather.
They look nice at this point, nice job
 
I've recently ordered some nice exotic wood and burl scales and am waiting for them to arrive. I figured while I'm waiting I should practise a bit more. I started looking for some wood to use but all I had was a set of scales that were slightly undersized. Just for practise so what the heck. I don't even recall what the wood is but it is nice looking. I put a thin spacer under the grips to add a bit of contrast and made to size problem a lit bit less noticable. I also tried my hand at stippling some of the grip with a Dremel tool.
