Just Made the recipe of ballistic gel I found from the internet as the following:

The ratio is 1oz. of Knox Original gelatin for 1 cup distilled water

So put gelatin in the bottom of a saucepan. And gently put water in the pan while stirring to avoid air bubbles.
Stir until the gelatin seem to be well mixed you will see when for sure. Put in the refrigerator for 2 hours while it freezes .. Thereafter take the gel and put it on Low to medium fire .. and stir while avoiding making bubbles and avoiding going more than 125 F.. Cover pan with Pam and pour the liquid ..
Put in the refrigerator for 36 hours .. and this is it..

This is the cheapest recipe and It works well... The F.B.I use some more Expensive Gelatin that have the same results. They say that a .177 BB at 590 fps should run in the block about 8.5cm... And mine had the same result so I can surely count on it to be representative of real flesh like does The F.B.I

they say on the internet to cut the top of 2 pepsi Bottle 2L
and pour the mix in it this sould be ok to stop a standard rifle bullet... After that it has set in the refrigerator for 36 hours just put them end to end... and that's it...

My friend, you have really taken to reloading in a big way! I am impressed with your diligence.

Good luck with your testing. I'm glad to see that your .30-06 load with the Barnes 168 TSX is working out. I can't wait to see what this bullet will do in your ballistic gelatin.

Please post the photos of your test results so that we can all learn from you. :)

I made a small block first that I shot with some BB ...I'll make the Big block a bit later time to find enough gelatin...

I send some pic of the result of the first smal block that is only 2 cup of water... but enough to stop a BB in the ahlf of it...

Here are the pics of my small block with 2 BB in it as you can see they are right at the spot of 8.5 cm... You can also see teh path of the BB in the block I was really impressed..

Very nice, is this Knox Original Gelatin something I can just pick up at Safeway, or is it a special hard to find type of thing. I'd love to make some to try with my Speer Gold Dots.

Check the Baking aisle at any grocery store. I believe it comes in an orange box if memory serves me correctly.

The same Original unflavored as in the grocery store...And It's fun cause after you have cleaned it up off the bullet debris you can re-use it again and again. just remelt it slowly on the stove til it get to 125-130 F put in in your mold and in the refrigerator for another 36 hours and your done.. you can use it for a new bullet... or just to smash it...

Ok. Do you use it when frozen or thawed? After 36 hours can it be stored at room temperature forever or are you using it right after you pull it from the freezer?

I believe most specs call for it to be used at 4C. Another reason I will be using Perma-Gel from now on.

You use it form thaw state..and try to keep cold ... exemple don't leave all day long in full sun shine... When you go to the range you can place it in a Cooler and make the test you can make before it become to hot...

But you can keep it in your freezer and get it out to the refrigerator 3 or 4 hours before going to shoot time it become thaw..

Wrap it in plastic and you can keep as long as one year in a freezer ....(As they say)..

About perma-Gel or Vyse... It is not cheap we talk about 25$ a pound.. and they don't want to ship in small quantities.. Just to make one block by exemple.. That's why I turned back to the simple Knox recipe

PErma-gel is very easy to make your self, and can be reused over and over. It is just white oil and a polymer powder. It is actually easier than mixing up gelatin.

Don't you have a hint where to look for... It makes about 20 min. I'm looking for perma-Gel recipe.. And don't find anything...

Septon is the better polymer to use. Petrocan #7 white oil is easily availbel in 5 gallon pails for about $60 is major cities. #7 oil is also availbe from Chevron and other bulk oil suppliers. It is used a lot in the food industry as a non-stick coating on pans and for things like gummy bears.

You can buy the same roaster pan perma-gell sells, at Wal-mart for about $50.

PS why the hell is my Firefox spell checker not owrking?!

Septon is ordered from Septon in the US, #7 is very common. It can be ordered from bulk fuel suppliers AKA home heating oil. I am not selling you a product, just trying to tell you about a better solution to you needs.
