Made up some .303 B with my new NOE mold

Got out today and shot 2 - 5 shot groups. Loaded with 13gr and 14gr of 800x

The 13gr 3 shots grouped just over 1". 4 shots grouped at 2.2" with the 5th shot flying 3" high of the rest. That flyer had case head seperation so obviously I'm going to retest that load with 10 rounds since it was promising. The group was also more vertically strung than wide being only 1.04" wide.

14gr grouped around 3.3" scattered.

I got out twice today to test different rounds! Happy to report I've got some good results. The weather warming up so I was getting a lot of mirage off the barrel today but still managed alright. I tried 12 and 13grs first trip. Decides 12gr was the way to go, then went back again with 2 lots of different OALs.

first trip yielded this group.

second trip I shot this group with comparable OAL. (The longer ones were worse.)

4 shots landed in 1.14" and 5 shot group opens it up to 2.31"
final recipe is as follows.

fire formed neck sized brass - neck opened to .314
208.5gr .314 GCed projectile
12gr 800x
OAL 3.11"

im in going to make some more of these and shoot them to really see what the average group is. My goal is a 2.5" 10 shot group, and it seems I'm well on the way to that. I wonder what happened with that flyer. I didn't feel like I pulled the shot. All cases were wiped clean before firing.

Just one little item I've noticed when shooting lighter loads in the winter. I've developed 3 loads for a 450 Marlin and #3 is for light target, shoot all day stuff. If I shoot it in the winter, below 0 degrees, accuracy is terrible because of the small charge of powder. That completely changes if I use a magnum primer. This load only uses 13 gr of 700X and is quite accurate (at least to 50 yds offhand). Best of luck with the 303Br. I have a mold from LBT purchased over 20 years ago that performs very well. Unfortunately getting old sucks and my eyes don't behave as they did when I was young so I've had to resort to using a scope on it.

Yeah the 800x is very bulky so a magnum primer hasn't been needed. I've been shooting groups off a bench. Gonna test again this weekend see if I can clean up that flier. I have a few thoughts on what could be wrong.

What app is that???

I cast for the .303B as well using a Lee 312285 mould. It overcasts to .314.5 and I size to .314 / tumble lube.
