Made up some scale targets for basement IPSC dry fire

I've gotten my sorry butt back to the local IPSC matches and I'm having a great year so far. I've started dry firing in my basement again and I do believe it is helping with my draws and my reloads, just like it used to when I used to do it regularly.

To do this right, I've made up some cardboard targets for use during dry fire.

I first made up some full scale mini classic targets. I have two sets of two hanging on the wall (I really like those 3M command hooks because I can always get them off the wall without causing damage). The mini classics at the distance I have them hanging gives me a sight picture almost exactly the same as some of the target arrays we shot at the AMA Spring Bang.

I also just made up some 1/3 scale Classic targets and some 1/2 scale mini poppers and 1/3 scale poppers. I haven't figured out where they'll go but I'll find a place.

The scoring zones are marked with thin pencil lines. I put them on to help me remember where 'centre of mass' should be and I do not find them distracting at all. If I get tired of them I'll just flip the targets over.

Future plans include figuring some way to rig up a mini swinger in my basement for practice. I'm thinking small PVC pipe and fittings, if I can find them at the local hardware stores.

Cheers all,

I made up 6 stands and bought some IPSC target that I arrange in different stages for dry fire practice. I also take them to the range for live fire practice and set up my own stages whenever I have a chance. I bought 50 targets and repair tape, so I should be good to go for a few years of live fire practice. I find having the targets for dry fire drills in the basement help a lot.

you have been taught well. I aim 3/4 high, so pretty much the same thing. On IPSC targets it makes a huge difference as the A zone is offset that way anyhow.

I aim midway...and then Slavex yells at me... so next time I aim midway again...and he yells again. Its a fun game and im improving...

I would like to do this as well.

Just to save me the basic math, what are the dimensions? And at what distance are you from the target, 5 ft?

I've made some small (mini) classic targets at their actual size. I also made some classic targets at 1/3 scale. I think the poppers are 1/2 scale or perhaps 1/3 scale. I move them around my basement so I dry fire at as close as 3 meters out to as far as 5.

If you download the targets off of the IPSC web site, print them at whatever scale you like, cut them out and use them as a template to trace onto cardboard. Make them any scale you want to.
