I was going over the rules for standard division and I didn't realy understand if extended mag bases are allowed,I know they have to fit the box and not over 10 rounds, but was unsure about the actual after market base?
Thanks in advance for your time!:)

I think that fitting in the box is the key point. If the mags have extended base pads that don't allow the gun to fit, they aren't allowed. the after market magazines I use fit in the box and are allowed in Production class. So that's my 2 cents worth. I'll be curious to see replies from more experienced IPSC shooters.

I also know a fellow shooter that got bumped to open for having little rubber bumpers on his mag bases.

funny how there is no box for production and no size limit on mag... other than it must meet external demensions of original mag....

They don't need a box or mag restrictions in Production because you can only use the guns and mags that are on the list and they already know their dimensions and you can't make any modifications .

What about base pads ! as I know a shooter at the last Cdn nationals that had been bumped to open for having rubber bumpers on his mag bases, not over the allowed length.:runaway:eek:

To try and answer your question very simply...

In Standard Division and in the IPSC Region of Canada you are allowed to utilize extended base pads so long as the overall length does not exceed 140mm (for a double stack magazine) or 170mm (for a single stack magazine).

This is because of a Rule Exemption that was granted to the Region of Canada as outlined in the link that Freedom Ventures posted... http://www.ipsc-canada.org/exempt04.pdf (which has never been updated on the IPSC Canada website like we discussed in an e-mail exchange a while back, Sean ;)) Nonetheless the rule exemption is still in affect.
Overall length means just that (overall length including any little rubber stick-on cushion thingy's that some people add on to protect their mags from hitting the floor).
Magazine length measurement is depicted in Appedix F1 of the current IPSC Hangun Rulebook...http://www.ipsc.org/pdf/RulesHandgun.pdf

If found to have over-length mags (meaning over 140mm but equal to or less than 170mm) in Standard Division during a match the only option available to match officials is to "bump" the competitor into Open Division. If the mags in question are found to be over 170mm than the competitor may complete the match for "no score". Bottom line... make sure your equipment complies with the rules cause getting "bumped to Open" ain't no fun... and shooting for "no score" sucks royally (been there, done that!)

Boy, that was long winded for something that seemed so simple in my head...

Cheers, Eh?

Thank-you !
For your reply Slavex as you should know, my almighty mentor,:D

So the question is.... for Standard Major with a single stack 1911.... what is the actual lenght of the commonly available 10rd mags? Since I don't have any I need to ask. Do they meet the under 170mm? Can I go out and order some for my next match?
Yes, I have yet to see a 10 round single stack magazine longer than 170.

Last fall I shot a match where I should have signed in as Production because I got hosed with the 8rd mags.
You couldn't have because 1911 Single Actions are not on any production gun list. ;)
