i was out shooting some slugs through my new grizzly 870 the other day.
I was trying to shoot some groups off-hand at 50 yards. I hadn't really sighted the gun in yet, since ive only been using it for close range blastin of pop bottles...
Took 4 shells to hit paper. I was shooting at a 24"x24" target. After making adjustments to the rear sight (HOLY CRAP ARE THOSE SCREWS CHEAP!) I took a couple more shots. went from shooting high right to center and a little left. 2 slugs were about 2" apart. So i take another 2 shots and both hit the top right corner of the target.. wtf.. i figure it was me flinching. So i take another 2 shots. high and right again. the 4 slugs were in a 4" area, but high right again. The rear apature is as far left as it goes now, and I was still shooting high right. Tight groups, but way off target!
So I take a rest and shoot some .22lr for a bit, figuring that I am flinching or something. I go back to the shotgun after about 20 mins and I am still hitting high right?! well After shooting $20 in slugs I gave up and went home.
When i was stipping the shotgun at home to oil it, I noticed the mag cap had worked its way loose and the barrel could spin a few mm.
Do you think the loose mag cap would have been the reason behind my shooting? Or do you think it is something wrong with the shooter.
The grizz is stock, except I put wingmaster wood on it and hacked about 1.5" off the end of the stock to make the LOP a little shorter.
was shooting 2 3/4" federal magnum 1 1/8oz (1550 fps) slugs.
I shot all 2 shot groups. I had 2 groups where the holes in the target were touching! So I think the choice of slug is not the problem. point of impact seems to be fairly consistant.
From what I have read, putting some electrical tape on the threads of the mag will help keep the mag cap in place? Is this the best fix?
